>>>Broncos | Cutler could debut Week 7
Sun, 22 Oct 2006 08:08:48 -0700

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Denver Broncos QB Jay Cutler could make his debut during the Week 7 game.<<<

ok, does this mean the Broncos giving up on the season? I realize Cutler is a 1st rd pick and Romo isnt, but Romo's been in this same system for 3yrs and we just signed him to a contract extension...if he cant play why'd they do that? It seems the reply so many make is "we're trying to win a superbowl, so Bledsoe is the only hope of that"...is Bledsoe any better or worse than Plummer? Arnt the Broncos a superbowl contender?

question to ponder- if Shanahan were coaching here who'd be starting Monday night for us? Hell who would have started last week vs Houston?

I don't believe it for a second. Plummer will be the starter in Denver for the rest of this year at the very least.

I wouldn't doubt for one second that Cutler gets to play sometime this year. Shanahan ISN'T BP. Shanahan doesn't get as attached to his player in the QB position to the extend that BP does.

I am from Colorado and I follow the Broncos almost as close as I follow the Cowboys. The only realistic scenario in which Cutler plays is Plummer getting injured.

I don't think Cutler is going to start. Notice the wording. Make a debut, not start. I think he may begin to see some actual game time, but I don't think they'll be giving him all the keys to the bus.

Can I get this week's lotto numbers? I'm tired of actually working for a living. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I may have overstated my point a bit. What I was trying to say is Cutler is the number two in Denver, and the chances of him getting playing time outside of Plummer getting hurt/garbage time/playoff spot wrapped up/etc. look pretty negligible to me. I guess we'll see.

Exactly what I was thinking. Something similar to what Parcells did with Romo in the Texans game. :)

except that isnt why they are talking about playing Cutler...the rumors are flying about him playing because Plummer is playing poorly...

I think Shanahan is far less likely to stick with Jake than Bill would be in the exact same scenario with Bledsoe.

Of course, Cutler's draft status annoints him heir apparent anyway, but regardless, Shanahan only needs to be convinced Plummer won't give him an edge in the playoffs, and imho, he's out.

Whereas Bill would need a much greater margin of proof...Drew would have to be a flat out liability to pull him.

but like you say, we'll see.

Cutler won't start until the Broncos start losing games because of Plummer and falling out of the playoff race...I don't see it happening this year.

Wayne, from what I hear, Shanahan's job is not exactly as secure as he is used to...I can see Cutler in to save his job...if Jake's performance looks like it's jeopardizing the playoffs, I don't think Mike will hesitate at all.

He can lose with Cutler and "win". But he can only lose all around if he goes down with Jake.

Better question to ponder--

Had Shanahan been the coach here instead the last 10 years would you have ripped him more or less than BP and Zimmer since the Broncos havent done squat when it matters since Elway retired. And he's a guy with total control.

I'm guessing you wouldnt care who he started at QB.. you'd have been calling for his head years ago.

well, since you bothered to mention it

Shanahan has done more there than BP has here since Elway retired

Has he?

You like to point out BP has yet to win a playoff game in 3 years.

Shanahan went 6 years before finally winning one last year.

You'd have been whining to can him before he ever got to that 7th season.

I don't see what previous seasons' playoff games have to do with being smart enough to hand the reigns over to a younger, better QB.
