I don't really know who's 'done better' in the last three years years - it'd take a pretty detailed analysis of the
2003 Cowboys and Broncos rosters.

Totally differenet scenarios for these two old warhorse coaches.

Bill building a roster from years of decline in Dallas. Mike trying to sustain a winning team over time.

Both jobs are darn tough.

I dont think it will happen.. Besides this is Mort that reported it. The same guy who is always reporting that BP will retire every year.

Hey, you don't have to slap the dog BM out of me, I want Romo to start.

3:00 to go in the 3rd and Cutler hasn't been in yet. Denver is leading 17-0 so he may be in before it's over.

Another reason why I think the move will not happen.. Plummer is like 38-12 with the Broncos or something ridiculous like that. Winning the SB is all fine and dandy but you have to make sure you make it to the playoffs first.

I think Shanahan is far less likely to stick with Jake than Bill would be in the exact same scenario with Bledsoe.

Of course, Cutler's draft status annoints him heir apparent anyway, but regardless, Shanahan only needs to be convinced Plummer won't give him an edge in the playoffs, and imho, he's out.

Whereas Bill would need a much greater margin of proof...Drew would have to be a flat out liability to pull him.

but like you say, we'll see.

My only argument against that is what young QB has Shanny ever played for more than a quick looksie?

He brought in Plummer because he wanted an older vet even if a bus driver.

The only playoff team I can recall that played a kid recently was Pittsburgh and they did so when Maddox got injured.

Young kids generally get chances through either horrid teams or because of being forced to play.

Rivers got to sit, Palmer got to sit. Harrington, Carr and others didn't.

I dont know that there's a magic formula. Each kid is different. Lienart is(seems) ridiculously ready. Many others are/were not. Some never will be.

I'd be like Parcells.

I argued for Griese and many others here during the "lowlights" of Wright/Carter/Chutch.

Young guys should play if they are equal or better not because they are younger. Potential is nothing but a pipedream at QB.

One reason that you might see Cutler is that you have to imagine that Denver's offensive production couldn't drop too much more if you put him in. 12 ppg isn't likely to get you to the playoffs, unless you have a historic level defense.

>>>Broncos | Cutler could debut Week 7

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Denver Broncos QB Jay Cutler could make his debut during the Week 7 game.<<<

ok, does this mean the Broncos giving up on the season? I realize Cutler is a 1st rd pick and Romo isnt, but Romo's been in this same system for 3yrs and we just signed him to a contract extension...if he cant play why'd they do that? It seems the reply so many make is "we're trying to win a superbowl, so Bledsoe is the only hope of that"...is Bledsoe any better or worse than Plummer? Arnt the Broncos a superbowl contender?

question to ponder- if Shanahan were coaching here who'd be starting Monday night for us? Hell who would have started last week vs Houston?

David

Teams make judgment based on what they see during the week, just because Denver will play Cutler means nothing and should not dictate what Dallas does or does not do at QB.

Plummer may be benched due t6o the fact that Denver has scored
10, 9, 17, 13, 13 and 17 points during the season
as a comparison Bledsoe has directed our offense to:
17, 27, 38, 24, and 34 points (not counting defensive scores)

Bledsoe's performance has been much better than Plummer's so far.

Well of course Griese was the closest thing to Shanahan doing what you initially asked. He sat the first year and was then handed the keys after the back to back SB's and Elways retirement.

Obviously that gave them no shot to 3-peat. Then in Grieses 2nd year he did well and they "locked him up" long term including a 12 million dollar signing bonus. But then ooops, that didnt work out so then Shanny brought in Plummer to be the savior.

But thats typical egostistical Shanahan. First thinking he could get it done with a rookie and then thinking while everyone else thought Plummer wasnt any kind of franchise QB, he figured he could get Plummer to be one.

In other words, Shanahan aint exactly a poster boy for knowing what to do at the QB position other than being "smart enough" to know that if he surrouned one of the best QB's of all time with some pretty darn good skill players (as opposed to the ones he was surrounded with the first 3 go-rounds), the guy could actually win a championship or 2.

Hmm.. I didnt know that the PPG for Denver was that low. Maybe teams have figured out that playaction bootleg thing they do 50% of the time.

Edit: I think Denvers D is only giving up 7 points a game I think.
