i actually see some people are being stupid and comparing this to the tiki barber situation with the giants. saying we to can have addition by subtraction.
when the the 2 are completely different. the giants have more then proven with their o-line and blocking schemes anyone can run efffectively and for 1000 plus yards behind their line. so tiki's effectiveness and presence was easily replaced and over valued at the time of his retirement.
shockey as well was sparingly used and was not even an integral part of their passing game since his rookie year. his production was not that of a top tier TE.
the giants and many of their fans then foolishly thought after the plaxico situation they could rely on the same philosophy and cut plaxico after the season
fortunately for giants fans they got to see 1st hand how their offense looked without plaxico. defenses were able to now key in on their dominate run game and play them closer to the line without fear of a player of plax caliber beating them deep.
i live in newyork and the media went on daily and weekly rant of
"the giants dont need plaxico!!!
'' the new cancer must be cut!!!
fast forward a few weeks later and a playoff loss to philly those rants changed to
should the giants bring plax back?
he deserves another shot!!! (no pun intended)
after they got to witness 1st hand the effects of losing their star wide out.
now their gm and everyone is welcoming him back with open arms if he is cleared of all legal charges.
unlike the giants we dont get to evaluate the aftermath of not having owens until the start of next year. unlike them there is no turning back on our decision, the damage has been done.
will we be a better team next yr of fall flat on our face? who knows. but i doubt cutting our star wr and one of the better ones in the league helps.
if we play better next yr it wont be because of 1 single player being cut, it will be simply because this team had no buisness winning 9 gms last yr and underachieved. people forget we went 13-3 with T,O NOT LONG AGO. it wasnt his fault we lost to the giants. if we are truly a better team it will be cause guys stepped up and did their jobs. garrett finally improved and learned to adjust while also staying committed to the run game and not abandonning it
wade manned a dominate defense for all not part of the season while finding a stud at safety. these will be the reasons we will be better next yr. NOT because T.O. is no longer around
i was and still am a fan of owens but i am a cowboy fan first. so despite my belief this was a terrible move i can only support this team heading into next yr and hope those things stated occur and can only nullify what went on with T.O and his departure. COWBOYS IN 09
if you were on American Idol, I would say you are being safe with your writeup here.
Of course if the team plays better, it will be because they underachieved the year before and that players stepped up to the plate. How can anyone argue against that?
I will not get into the comparisons with Giants and any other team for that matter. Doesn't matter to me.
What does matter, and I will not play it safe and go out on a liomb with obviously the majority of everyone else out there in saying that this team will definately be a much better team without TO.
Do you remember last year in the last several weeks of the regular season when everyone was saying 'we must find a way to get the ball to TO'?
Now tell me that Garrett did not alter his normal gameplanning and devise it specifically get the ball to TO....
How about Romo, how many times did we see him specifically force balls in TO's direction to keep TO happy?
If either of these things were not being done, TO was whining to the media and to Jerry about how he is the playmaker on this team and you must get the playmaker the ball.
well TO, you can take your rubbish BS to some other team like the Raiders, because we want to win as a team, not as one player surrounded by a team!!!
