CW: DJ Reader Projected to be Cowboys Target

They have 3 NTs.
They have four DTs. That three of them can play NT isn't relevant IMO because they are going to keep four DTs at least. I think McNeill also is seen as more than an NT. He has 11.5 sacks in four years, just two fewer than our 3-tech.

That’s all you need to know. Worth every million and the trade cost. Also, if they do this it means they think they are very competitive for a conference title
This. The Jones Jokers want to be taken seriously? Do this and we will have a path to the playoffs.

After paying Osa they are done at DT.
I'm not saying I expect them to sign him, but one doesn't really have too much to do with the other. It's not even the same position. Reader would basically be on a one year deal of about a $7Mish with bonuses and the such. About the same as Murray costs us at LBer. One and done contracts don't hurt your cap health unless exorbitant. As far as need for the player goes, we all know how disappointing Mazi has been and 7th round draft picks don't often play much of a role year 1 as much as fans want to assume they will even though year after year it doesn't happen too often. This team needs to improve it's run defense if it wants to win the games that matter most against the top teams and other than the "hope and a prayer" approach, hasn't done much yet too do so.

McClay should definitely wear the “L” for advocating for Mazi.

Dude has nearly zero production at Michigan and clearly they didn’t do enough investigating about his football character and passion for the game.

I haven’t given up on him but this is his 3rd year and proverbial “make it or break it” season as far as I’m concerned.
He's been doing what he's asked to do. Just doesn't show up in the stat column.

not going to happen. Jerry is done with the Offseason.

Again they will hope Mazi Smith develops and the two 7th Rounders work out

Regardless on how it goes down, if it does, he would make an excellent addition inside that defensive front line.
I'd pull the trigger and make a trade offer if he's actually available. If not, I doubt we land him as it will require more $ than they'd want to spend.

I don't see why they need to get rid of him. They have a potentially strong four-man rotation with Reader, McNeil, Tyleik Williams and Onwuzurike.
If he's not starting, they would probably wanna give his snaps to a younger player........future potential

Don't put words in my mouth. The 4 DAWGS are Pickens, Booker, Donovan Ezeiruaku, and Revel. Those are the DAWGS. Remember, credibility and ownership counts here.
There's only ONE NFL proven Dawg and thats Pickens......the 3 others are all unproven in the NFL or are coming off injury.

And you absolutely declared that last seasons LB Corp would be an area of strength so just man up and admit it.

Credibility and ownership once again

The Cowboys will never address the gaping hole in the middle of their defensive line. They are going to wait and see if Mazi Smith is going to magically transform himself into a real football player or continue to be the human turnstile.

they have a bunch of JAGS and bodies they have thrown at the problem and hoping one sticks....
if Reader is proven, then lets get him. and happily dump or trade Mazi.

I would probably offer a conditional 6th-rounder........
I saw an article intimating that the Commanders may inquire about him. May be pure speculation since they already spent a 2nd rounder last season on a DT, they signed J. Kinlaw, and still have Payne.

I mention that to say that I may offer next year's 5th for Reader if in fact he may be a potential cut for the Lions. Dallas is expected to get two 5th round comp picks in 2026 for DLaw and I believe Jourdan Lewis. They won't know until close to the draft next year, but having three 5th round picks would make it palatable to give the Lions our 5th rounder.

BS once again.

BS. Then why was our Run D so pathetic? mostly because the LBs were getting run over because Mazi and company WERE NOT DOING THEIR JOBS
