Right. And I don’t think we really expected to equally replace our two OL, Cooper and Gregory. So yea, we have downgraded our talent from 2021 roster. And looks like our divisional foes have made up some ground .I think Mel nailed it. The 7th tackle off the board in round 1 is usually going to be a reach based on need. Plus, he's a small school guy who didn't have to go up against NFL caliber prospects, and even at that level of football, he was highly penalized. We drafted him not for what he accomplished in college but b/c he has physical traits that indicate he could be a lot better. We'll coach him up....... just like we did with........... nobody. Our other first round OL picks Frederick, Zach, and Tyron were great college football players who were tested against the best in college. They were not ground up projects like this kid.
The second pick is a situational pass rusher who was awful against the run and probably could have drafted in round 3. Jalen Tolbert is a need pick.
Overall, what we gained this offseason doesn't equal what we lost. The other NFC East teams made up a lot of ground.
He’s guilty of over hyping but yea, he’s the draft guru of the modern era regardless if we agree or not on his assessments.
C+ isn’t that far off and he admittedly is giving us that lower grade because of our 1st round pick and who we passed on.
Most places I’ve seen have given us a B to B- which C+ isn’t much of a stretch from there .
Kippers grades aren’t of interest to me. I take him for what I need . Information I’m too lazy to gather. How do we determine if it's an accurate grade? He's been around forever. I stopped watching him and ESPN around 2012, when I was able to get NFLN. Around the time he said he'd resign if some bum quarterback wasn't a success by 2018. Such a bum I don't remember his name. Around the time he graded the Seahawks 2011 and 2012 draft classes poorly. Player that were instrumental in getting them to two straight SBs. And that wasn't the first time.
But my initial comment that you responded to had nothing to do with Mel Kiper. It had to do with analysts in general, like Ron Jaworski.
Tolbert is going going to let a lot for the hopefully fans down, imo.Lmao.
Isn’t the draft a bunch of unknowns and it’s based off potential???
Guarantee this draft has at least 3 starters by seasons end (Smith, Williams, Tolbert) and multiple role players.
Yup, everyone is a critic.Like Stephen and Jerry? They don't have jobs on NFL teams b/c they make more money in TV and other media. Kiper has been grading drafts since before they were even televised. He literally invented the entire concept of grading drafts.
Nobody is right all the time. Even the best.
Yup, everyone is a critic.
How do the critics grades hold up, particularly when it matters most, after the picks hit the field and start to perform?

Since when is Tulsa a small school?!?I think Mel nailed it. The 7th tackle off the board in round 1 is usually going to be a reach based on need. I disagree. The Cowboys have had a nice run in the draft over the past decade. Someone here put up a stat recently and the accolades for Cowboys draft picks were among the league's best. It's about production on the field for me. Value is an afterthought.Go look. Kiper is the only guy that leaves his grades up from previous years. He usually grades us in the C range after a draft. Hard to argue given the teams lack of success. But he's not grading the players so much as the draft value. If he has a 4th round grade on a guy and we take him in round 2, thats not going grade high on his scale. As an organization we rarely ever maximize draft value.
“If Jimmy Clausen is not a successful quarterback in the NFL, I’m done. That’s it. I’m out.”
Guess who said that?
He throws things at the wall to see if it sticks. He's convincing to some people, but if you read his breakdowns it's a lot of guessing. And there's a huge list of certainties he claimed that were completely wrong. Some one also said, there are teams out here paying millions to GM's. If Kiper is that good then why hasn't one of these teams hired him?

Life is good inside the bubble.Yeah that was a BS article my second grader could have done only counting pro bowlers which make up very small % of any teams roster and not a great metric. The more meaningful draft metrics show the Cowboys from 2010-2019 were the 4th worst drafting team.

The period of 2015-2019 was much better. We rank 7th during that span in football outsiders evals and 11th in a NY Post article.

Nobody who follows NFL drafting thinks the Cowboys do well..... well, nobody outside the Dallas Cowboys bubble.
