Czarnecki gives Dallas a C

The Cowboys used their first pick to acquire Lions receiver Roy Williams and then proceeded to trade out of the second round, too. Western Illinois linebacker Jason Williams should give them speed off the edge. Texas A&M quarterback Stephen McGee was a very good selection at the top of the fourth round. Remember, McGee ran 4.66 in the 40-yard dash. McGee is in a good situation. He's a great worker and has solid pocket sense, but is missing that big-time NFL arm strength.

The Cowboys focused on defense with their picks and then used the 172nd pick on USC kicker David Buehler, who had better 40-yard times than teammate Rey Maualuga. But does Buehler beat out Nick Folk? TCU strong safety Stephen Hodge fills a need, but Cincinnati's Mike Mickens was viewed as a third-round talent until needing cartilage and meniscus knee surgery after playing 46 games. Good value in the seventh round. Grade: C

I'm shocked at how many experts think Buehler was brought here to beat out Folk instead of Kicking off.

And yet they are grading our draft.
Can't put much stock in people who have no clue what the players roles are going to be on our team.

I guess most don't think anyone is dumb enough to actually draft a PK in the 5th round for the sole purpose of just kicking off.

But hey, that Jerry, he sure is clever.

Wow, I truly thought that I would never have to put someone on the ignore list, but you have become the first. You have a clear agenda against JJ and that clouds every single thought you have about this team. Any opinion you ever express is tainted with bias, so why should we listen to anything you have to say? Quite sad... why don't you just hop on top of another team's bandwagon? Atlanta has a very promising new QB and had a pretty good draft... maybe you can join them.

You wouldn't be the first to drop him on ignore. Not being a "homer" is one thing, but this guy has been on basically every thread criticizing just about everything about the team as much as possible, insulting just about everyone on the board that doesn't think the draft was the worst in the history of the NFL, etc.

Anti-homerism is the refuge of the pseudointellectual - you get automatic credibility from some for opposing your team, because they'll assume you're an open-minded free thinker, even if you make no real arguments. After a while, unfortunately, if you're not careful, the little spiel just turns you into the same kind of blather-spewing automaton as the worst kind of homer.

As bad as you might think our draft was, at least we aren't the Raiders. If you want to make an argument that our draft is worse than theirs, then you are just out for an agenda.

That's my take as well.

If they can't pay enough attention to understand the roles how can you grade fairly?

Not sure how many teams carry a 2nd kicker but Folk is good enough as a kicker but bad enough as a kickoff guy to warrant it and we drafted a guy who is the sole player able to kick off plus provide coverage as an actual athlete.

Bill Polian sucks too huh? He has the highest paid, most clutch Kicker in NFL history and he too drafted a Kicker just for Kickoffs.

Didn't they draft a punter, not a kicker, to replace their lost punter?

Eitherway C sounds about right to me, given the info available as of right now. Could go up or down, hoping for the former.

Only because it was a chance to jab at me.

Drafting a kicker just for kickoffs in the 5th round when we have a good PK is ********. I don't care if it's Jerry or Bill Polian. Too bad Jerry doesn't have the overall track record as Polian though. Drafting that kicker wasn't our only mistake.

The problem is you rarely, if ever, have anything positive to say regarding JJ and/or the Cowboys.

If you dislike JJ so much, why do you profess to like the Cowboys? He's not going anywhere. This is actually a serious question. I'm not trying to take a jab at you. Are you a glutton for punishment?

I've loved the Cowboys since the late 1970's. I'm not a bandwagoner that jumps around everytime we have ups and downs.

But that said, I also don't just go out and rubberstamp every ******** decision my team makes just because I'm a fan of that team. Some are blind homers and do just that, but that's not me. I'll blindly root for the team on the field when they play, but I have no problem with being objective about them.

As for Jerry, if you haven't noticed, he's one of the main reasons this team hasn't won a playoff game in more than a dozen years. Him playing fantasy GM with a real team is the main reason for that, not to mention hiring some average to horrible coaches during that time like Switzer, Gailey, Campo and now Wade.

I know many want to give him credit for the '90's Super Bowls even though Jimmy was making most of the personnel decisions those days and then just want to act like we've just had a 13-14 year run of bad luck. And the magically around the time BP was hired and put in charge we started getting back in the playoff picture again. Funny how that works.

So maybe one reason some have negative attitude about the job Jerry has done is because for most of the past 15 years Jerry has done a poor job.

I, too, dislike Jethro intensely; however, I have to give credit where credit is due and change my mind when the situation calls for a re-assessment. Jerry seems to have turned a corner so far this off-season, starting with flushing the toilet at Valley Ranch and cutting ties with T.O. and letting tank and other deadwood walk as their contracts expired. My guess is that the 44-6 season ending debacle finally made Jerry think about what has been going on at VR the last few years and how last year came about.

I think this lunchpail work ethic draft, rather than his usual glitz and glamour guys, is a further sign that Jerry is wising up. Of course we won't know for sure for two or three years but I'm feeling more optimistic than I have in years about the direction this group appears to be taking and they might actually field a real team this season. Don't laugh, it could happen.

I think a C is MORE than fair: but don't you have to include RoyW. in that list? In a roundabout way you do: bump it to a B in that case.

No, I am not. I think both choices were ones I would not make. The point is other GMs do the same things he abuses Jerry Jones for. Bill Polian is one of the best GMs in NFL History. He lets his agenda override his common sense too often and I call him on it.
