D-linemen in the nickel?

Why? Clark has season sack totals that Osa NEVER got - Osa's career high in sacks as a 3T was 4.5. Kenny Clark reached or surpassed that total 4 TIMES PLAYING NT (career high of 7)!!!!! Could be why the kept him over Osa...
Just because he's not a spring chicken, NT is a very demanding position, and you have to rest him sometimes.

Our Defense will be less predictable and QB's will have to figure out where the pressure is coming from.

If you can collapse the pocket, while forcing the QB to step up, we will have team sacks. We don't need a Super Hero.
Not really. Double QW and just man block everyone else. Deception doesn't matter when you don't have rushers who win 1-on-1 consistently.

The last guy said he can scheme pressure too. How did that turn out?

I said it last year...that if it came down to a choice between Osa and Clark that Osa had to go. Clark is the better overall player. He's a former first round draft pick no less.

The last guy was 4-3 guy...not a 3-4 guy. Remember...it's 1 of 5 vs. 1 of 4. An important advantage that the 3-4 offers and it will make things easier for the OLBs and ILBs...including blitz pressures. Getting a shutdown corner to pair with Thompson and you can roll coverage and give these guys up front an extra second to do dirty business.

There's also no such thing as sacks from NT. Maybe from a 1T, but not a 0.
Ogbonnia is going to be that zero, so I don't expect much from him. But Jay Ratliff was 1st team all pro at NT in 2009. He was an absolute terror that year in Phillips one gap 3-4. I think he had 6 sacks...and his disruption proclivities were significant (11 TFLs).

Sure but that's only in base sets when you aren't going to generate sacks anyway.

Sacks come when offenses are forced to throw because they are behind the sticks - Ogbonnia isn't going to be on the field in those situations. There will be either a 1T or 2I, but no true nose.

Point taken...but a lot of teams throw on first down...between 30 and 45% (pass vs. run) depending on the team (it generates a higher EPA). Eagles would be near the bottom but the better offenses will put it up more on first down. Ogbonnia will likely not come off until third down...unless it's 2nd and longer than 10...or he needs a rest.

The last was more predictable than the guy before.
We cant expect to out coach every team to generate pressure. Coaches will counter our "scheme" and it will come down to winning 1v1 match ups. Are we in a position to do that more often than not?

The cowboys played a ton of 3-4 under the last guy.

If the corners are NOT playing 10 to 15 yards off the ball.

Right...but it wasn't base 3-4. In any event I think that they let go Zimmer too soon. I think he had a slew of injuries that year iirc. I think that on the back half of the year they got better, with an increased number of turnovers. I think he should've been the guy and not Eberflus...if only from that continuity standpoint that Jones was talking about mid-year (with Eberflus). He should've had that same stance at the end of 2024.

Drake Maye had no idea where the pressure was coming from in the SB. His coaching had nothing to do with it. He could not read it.

Exactly. CP said what the QB sees under center won't be what they will do once the balls snapped. This will be more fun to watch than the pop warner defense under Eberflus

so you're just banking on the QB playing really bad every week?

No. Half the QB's are bad and can't read. Maye was a player of the year candidate and he was confused the entire SB.

Don't be predictable and make it easy on anyone.

I agree but I don’t think Zim was coming back. I think he felt slighted by not being named the HC.
