D-linemen in the nickel?

"Scheming up pressure" is all drinking alot of Parker Kool Aide. He has no experience doing that. Its just a hit of hopium that In Parker All Things Are Possible
I don’t think none of us know what he will do. I don’t question his intellect or resume though. He knows winning football is. So I’m optimistic. Sometimes hopium is all you got:

Who are the starting 4 pass rushing d linemen in the nickel? So far we have Williams and EZE. The others are more run stopping players in the base. OSA would have been the other DT but was traded. I think we need two more pass rushers to be competitive.
Based on what we have:

DE Gary/Williams
DT Clark
DT Quinnen
DE Eze/Houston

In some packages, we could play Gary or Williams inside in place of Clark with Houston at that DE spot. I don't expect Ogbonnia to play on passing downs.

We cant expect to out coach every team to generate pressure. Coaches will counter our "scheme" and it will come down to winning 1v1 match ups. Are we in a position to do that more often than not?
As I've said before...in 3-4 it will be 1 of 5 vs. 1 of 4 (in 4-3). That will matter. Having corners not playing 10 - 15 yards off the ball will matter. Improved safety and corner play will matter. ILB play will matter.

We don't know that we will be able to exploit the 1-on-1s with high regularity but we don't know for sure that we won't. We all want shiny new things because we think they will be better than the old used things we already have. That might be true. Maybe Bland won't recover from injury and Revel won't become a bonafide starter but that is based more on recency bias without context. They could both be good in 26'. It's all perspective. Is the glass half full...or half empty?

But every down is potentially a passing down. There is 40 - 50% pass-run on first down...some teams lower in that percentage than others. So it will be tricky for Ogbonnia. You won't always be able to take him off. But I get the general thoughts. Houston gave you 5.5 sacks last year and 6 TFLs. He could be an important piece going forward. Sam Williams is a wild card...and it's his last chance to show "something" before it's just time to move on...even if he is cheap.

We also can't discount ILB blitzes. Overshown and whomever they bring in as the new Mike. Overshown and Allen together would be interesting. Allen is more than fast enough to do A gap stuff. Liufau? Not sure. His snaps have been so limited that it's hard to know what to expect. Can't discount another edge they might bring in...like Clowney even...or another edge via the draft...like Ahkeem Mesidor (who would be REALLY nice for the rush package).

I don't know how much we'll use the 3-4 front. Since we're using one based off 4-3 alignment, though, it seems like it could be more often than on first-and-10, third-and-short, etc. I think we want our two best linemen (Quinnen and Clark) out there often, so we may see more five-man fronts with four men coming (less Ogbonnia and more "linebackers" like Gary at a 3-4 DE spot with Houston outside of him, etc.)

I could easily regularly see an alignment of OLB Eze, DE Quinnen, NT Clark, DE Gary, OLB Houston (based on what we've got). Obviously, we need to try to add to that and improve it, but I think we see Gary as a moveable piece. Might be Eze, Quinnen, Clark, Ogbonnia, Gary on first down and then if we make the stop, switch Gary to DE and bring in Houston. Could even play Overshown as the fifth man so that if we drop him into coverage, he's more capable than Houston or Eze would be. So, in that case, OLB Eze, DE Quinnen, NT Clark, DE Gary, OLB Overshown with Bell and Draft pick at ILB, Thompson and Hooker at S and whoever our starting corners will be.

Good offenses are begging for MLBs to blitz. The double mug can be confusing sometimes but creating space in the middle of the field either gives you an easy hot where the MLB came from OR gives you single high.

LDE - Gary
NT - Clark
3T - Quinnen
RDE - Eze/someone else

That is the easiest part of the Nickel equation - who plays behind them is the part that hasn’t been solved yet…
Keep an eye on Barron, the LB. Rookie FA last year. Started as a WR in college. Then FS. Then his last year he moved to LB.

Looks like hes bulked up to aroumd 235.

Could be a nickel option. I think Bell gets looks there as well. Similarly to how Quinn used him.

Most important thing for him to do is sell his concept to the players. They have to buy in and be committed to it and HIM.

I see this as one of Eberfluss biggest failures. I dont think the players bought in. And I dont get a feel that the particularly cared about him.

Yeah game 1 that team was over Eberflus and didn’t buy in to anything. Good points. No confidence in he scheme and it showed. Well maybe not week 1 they actually weren’t terrible but come to find out Eagles offense wasn’t as good as we initially thought.
