One thing that has bothered me the past bit, is the way Demarcus acts when hes asked about the contract and the money. Do not get me wrong, I love the guy and think he is a true gentleman, a leader, and deserving of the money he will get.

However, too many times I have seen him interviewed and asked about the contract situation and every time he has made it seem like its all about the money and nothing else, and how Albert and Dwight got paid made him happy. Honestly, I think eventually it will haunt him when people feel he is only in it for the money.

I agree. I love what I do, but if it wasn't paying, then I'd probably be an unhappy camper.

These guys love the game otherwise they wouldn't pursue it, but they love the money, too.

At least Ware is not tacky about it. "I'm about to get pizzaid!"

It's his job and in your job you want to be paid the best you can be paid. I don't fault him at all. If people think there are actually people out there playing NFL ball simply because it's about playing the game then they're crazy. If they weren't getting paid all the money they're getting paid no one would go out there and play all the time, or play hurt, or go through the crap they have to with the media and stuff just to be playing football.

There's a difference between doing a job just for the money and doing a job because you enjoy it AND the money. Hence the OP's concern is valid; but personally I think D-Ware isn't in danger of getting complacent after he gets his money. It's kind of a subjective character assessment thing, so there it is.

I also think a lot of athletes just "say the right thing" when asked about money. They'll say stuff like "well, I had to consider my family" or this and that, but in the end it's really whoever forks over the cash.

Why is it unfortunate that it's not back in the day? The talent level today is so much higher today for a variety of reason, but one of them is that people are given ENORMOUS incentives to pursue athletic careers, whereas before you were better off financially becoming an insurance salesman or something. Sure, there's inevitably a dilution of guys who "play for love of the game", but that's the price you pay.

You want spirited "for love of the game" play now, go watch college football-- and not the good teams either, because a lot of those guys are actually playing for pro contracts. Go watch some DII action or something, where the guys all have actual college classes and are probably going to into the workforce when they graduate and have nothing to gain by devoting hours a day to football.

That quality of play is what you'd see in the pros without the compensation we have now.

I know this isn't the thread for that, but consider what would happen if someone found a cure or superior treatment for cancer? There's literally BILLIONS if not TRILLIONS in cash that can be earned for that. Just look at the money that is being made by pharmaceutical companies-- whose largest expense is the cost of doing trials and paying talent for R&D.

Just saying, there's a pretty hefty monetary incentive for companies to research cancer, and there's a ton of money spent on R&D in that area. There's a reason our drugs cost so much money in this country.

He is arguably the best defensive player in the NFL and deserves to be paid as such. I dont have any problems with that. He is a money player and a great guy, you cant ask for more then that.

Just because you're happy with the money, that doesn't mean you're in it just for the money. He has every right to be ecstatic about getting that much money, because he has earned it.

Sure the talent level goes up but the heart goes down.Besides that,Do u seriously believe what Albert Haynesworth does for a living deserves 120 million or whatever it was?Stop and think about this.He is one man who plays a game and only 16 a season at that.Lets even leave any other profession aside and just think about this.120 million dollars to play a sport.A sport where one guy is not anywhere as vital as say basketball or baseball. They make too much. You cant possibly deny that.

Is Manny Ramirez worth his 25mil a year? A-Rod worth his $275 million in guaranteed money deal?

I'll argue that Haynesworth did more for his team then those two did for theirs

I just want them to get the deal done. I'm sick of hearing about it. Mosley said it should be done by sometime in training camp at the latest.

Think about how much money the OWNERS are making to be able to fork over that type of cash! It's all relative. It may be "just sports" but they're pulling in major $$$$.

No they are not worth that, but they defintely mean more to their team then 98% of football players.Football is total team effort baseball isnt.Manny takes teams to playoffs virtually himself.

Would you rather have Jerry and his boys pocket all that money? Think of all the plastic surgery Jerry could afford...

Vick took his team to the playoffs by him self had no defense lost in second round ( i believe). Manny can't pitch so they will suffer
