My point was not that he does not deserve it and of course they play for the money.

My point is that I am just getting sick of hearing especially now during the economy where millions are suffering due to the lack of money and every interview with Ware is about how excited he is to cash in. I am fortunate not be in the position many are in which is tight for cash, but when I would say 85% of your fans and people watching you play are taking such a huge hit, for him to come out and just talk about how rich he will be is wrong.

You are so right. As much as i love the system we all live free in there is definetly something wrong with it.

Today you get paid for what you're franchise can earn thru you. That's logical for the economic system we live in but it's not right if you judge it by fairness. It's not fair when you look at other people and how hard they work for the money or what they accomplish for others.

We need a change.

I don't harbour any ill-will towards him, and having been laid-off recently, I'd fall into that 85%. NFL players face very heavy odds to even make it past their first 2-3 years. Furthermore, they subject their bodies to unbelievable punishment and often suffer later in life (ala Mike Webster.)

I feel far more venomous towards executives in companies such as AIG, who have received outrageous bonuses for not performing well. At least in sports, you're are usually compensated for doing well and punished for doing badly.

My only concern is just how important it is to Ware to get the most he can.

Some of you feel Ware, just like any other player, should try to get all he can.

That makes sense. I mean why not? We all do it, why should he be different?

Well it is different for him and I'll explain why I see it this way.

First off, even if he took the first offer made by Jones, he'd be set for life.

I'm going to throw some numbers out here with no clear idea of what they will really be.

Jones offers 80 mil over 8 years, Ware's agent asks for 100 mil over 8 years.

Will it matter to Ware, his kids, his grandchildren and so on if he earns 80 or 100 mil over the next 8 years? NO

Will Jones profit be impacted by the 20 mil dollar savings? NO We all know Jones will spend to the cap each year, regardless of what Ware is earning.

So where's that leave us, the Cowboys and Ware.

Well if Ware does sign for a reasonable amount and not the max he can get. He'll probably play out his days with a slightly more talented team.

I'd say that's a win win win.

as long as Demarcus continues to sack quarterbacks and make tackles-for-loss followed by a ground-pound celebration on a scarily consistent basis, he can talk about what ever dollar figure he wants.

Football is a business...pure and simple. Not for the fans and that is understandable....but unless you have ever been in it or know somebody that IS in it, you won't understand just how much of a business that it really is.

you say it is not for the fans, but without the fans, there is no NFL.

Let me see: The guy shows up every play for 4 years, having outplayed is rookie contract since his first year. You don't hear anything from him but professionalism. He gives it is all and is still doing so currently. But just because he gets excited that his about to make more money that he ever dreamed of in his life, and shows a smile thing his adopted daughter wouldn't have to work for money her whole life, and his whole family that likely grew up modestly can have all the money they want to lavish, means he's money greedy. Okay!:bang2:

As for those who say these guys don't deserve the money. Well, they deserve it a lot more than lottery winners do. What are the chances that you're gonna grow to be 6'4, 260, have the athleticsm enough to run close to a 4.4 forty and have close to a 40 inch vertical leap, have a sport created to fit those athletic abilities of yours and the sport has a big enough consumer interest to create the revenue to provide a livelihood for so many athletes, and actually be so much better than all these athletes from different backgrounds that you get to make the amount of money that Ware is about to.

To me, it's a more goal driven way of hitting the lottery. I'm the one guy who goes on basketball courts and has more athleticism that everyone else. Yet I've never won anything in basketball and never played it organized. Mainly because I started too late due to growing up in Nigeria and my mom not being privvy to the opportunities that sports can afford. And just to think that there are all these athletes out there with way more athleticism than I will ever have, way more skills for the sports, dedication, enrollment in it their whole lives (the academies etc from when they were 6.....), dedication, blood, sweat and tears. I think they deserve all the money they can get:p:

One thing that has bothered me the past bit, is the way Demarcus acts when hes asked about the contract and the money. Do not get me wrong, I love the guy and think he is a true gentleman, a leader, and deserving of the money he will get.

However, too many times I have seen him interviewed and asked about the contract situation and every time he has made it seem like its all about the money and nothing else, and how Albert and Dwight got paid made him happy. Honestly, I think eventually it will haunt him when people feel he is only in it for the money.

Sure the talent level goes up but the heart goes down.Besides that,Do u seriously believe what Albert Haynesworth does for a living deserves 120 million or whatever it was?Stop and think about this.He is one man who plays a game and only 16 a season at that.Lets even leave any other profession aside and just think about this.120 million dollars to play a sport.A sport where one guy is not anywhere as vital as say basketball or baseball. They make too much. You cant possibly deny that.

No, I don't think they make too much. They make approximately what their marginal value to the organization is (more or less, the salary cap complicates things).

Also, Haynesworth's contract isn't "really" worth 120 million. It'll be at most half that... and he and his agent know this.

Why does that make you mad?

Do you work for a living? Do you like raises?

Many people work for a company through college, and then when they get their degree - they are excited about the compensation they will receive for graduating.

It's the _same_ principal. Ware's game went to another level - he should be compensated. It's not your money, anyway.

I agree. I love what I do, but if it wasn't paying, then I'd probably be an unhappy camper.

These guys love the game otherwise they wouldn't pursue it, but they love the money, too.

At least Ware is not tacky about it. "I'm about to get pizzaid!"

Hey I rather that than him blowing the usual smoke. It is a dollar issue then it is a dollar issue. Dallas can always franchise him if the need arises.

I never one to be mad at guys getting paid; just do not expect any sympathy from me when you whine about money or you want a new contract because someone else came along and got a bigger one.
