I agree just that Raiders have ran the ball 62 time they have passed the ball 63 times so Norv is not some pass happy coach he will try to establish the running game with Jordan and Crockett. I think Dallas has to use a double on Moss but everything else has to be played straight up

I think you read the stats wrong, they attempted 116 passes they only completed 63. So they're almost 2-1 pass to run.

Oh good grief... Playing the Pats right off the bat wasn't easy, but after that they've played a division opponent and a team from the standard interconference division assigned to them, which this year happens to be the NFC East. Where's the conspiracy?

It is the timing of the games, not the opponents.

They basically had two long cross-country trips (to New England and Philadelphia) sandwiched in between a home game.

The schedule maker did not do them any favors.

You're exactly right. Take a middle of the pack team talent wise like the Raiders. There's going to be 3 or 4 games that they probably should lose, 3 or 4 they should win and 8 to 10 that could go either way.

By starting the season off with the ones they should lose puts them in a hole that makes it more difficult. They've played pretty well all three times yet are 0-3 and on the edge of a breakdown in chemistry and confidence if they go 0-4. Dallas has played well once against San Diego, played poorly against Washington and poorly against San Francisco (any team other than last year's worst and that's probably a loss) yet are 2-1.

I do like how many fans appear to be taking the Raiders lightly, but assume we started the season with New England, Kansas City and Philadelphia.

There is no way on earth we win a game either.

I don't see it. Anytime the east plays the west, there are going to be long, long flights involved. And unless you play a string of games at home, which isn't that common, you're going to have to fly out every other weekend for certain stretches. It's the same for the Eagles, except they're good.

Plus, you could just as easily say that if the Raiders just get through the tough early part, they have the easier games coming up later and can put a run together.

And besides, why are the Chiefs being listed in this murderer's row? Are they that great? And we're not that great, so... Two of their first four games have been very tough. Is that really some conspiracy?

The bottom line is, it all comes out in the wash. :)

It does come out in the wash. But there is something to be said for momentum.

Four losses is the general scheme of things is not a big deal, but four losses to start a season is what gets coaches fired, teams down on themselves and fans disinterested.

Most teams don't recover after being winless the first quarter of the football season.

So if you have a schedule with a difficult chunk of your schedule right off the bat, you are immediately put under pressure.

It does matter greatly when a team is played for a few reasons. First, as I already stated, a poor start can damage chemistry and confidence but probably more importantly is how the "quality" teams have very little turnover in either personel or scheme.

NE or Philly are going to play just as well in game one as they do in game sixteen barring major injuries that cannot be predicted. Players have a continuity established. A team like Oakland (or Dallas for that matter) that is changing defensive schemes is going to have more mental breakdowns or blown assignments early in the year than late. I shouldn't even have to mention the growing pains experienced by most QB/WR combos or RB/OLs while they get a feel for each other's tendencies.

The Raiders do take alot of penalities.....but IMHO....I think the refs have something against them.....In this league you can basically call a penalty on almost every snap....with any team in this league.

The Patriots....lived off of making contact to receivers past the 5 yard limit....they realized that the refs will not call that play every single time.....other teams complained.

The Raiders were on the wrong end of the "new Tuck rule" which btw....I haven't seen it called since.....and have witnessed alot of similar plays

Couple with that the attitude the franchise has.

They don't care about penalties. Never have. It is part of the image.

A little off topic but I always thought it was suprising that these 2 teams never faced off in the Super Bowl during the 70's both teams were constantly in the playoffs but just never seem to get to the show against each other

Norv, has a reputation for undisciplined team management.(Washington and Oakland)
The Raiders have lead the league in penalties approximately 1/3 of their existance in the league--with Al Davis as owner/GM.

Kerry Collins lead the league in turnovers before joining the Raiders-had a drinking problem and got into a racial dispute in the lockerrom in Carolina.

Randy Moss? Save me the keystrokes...

What kind of dumb to you prefer? Patriots/Eagles/Steelers dumb or Raiders undisciplined dumb?

signing lamontjordan to a big year contract= DUMB

I'm a boyz fan by birth but I can't agree that signing LaMont was DUMB. He's been the only consistant player on that team thus far. He shows up every game and they go to him damn near every other down. If not for him they wouldn't have been in any of those games except the Philly one. He runs hard, is quick for his size and he's a threat out of the backfield. I sure hope the Boyz and Parcells aren't thinking like you. They betta not sleep on LaMont, he'd hurt us.
