Dak - a balanced thread

He's completed 3 years. How much longer is this supposed to take?

I agree he needs better coaching. He won't be getting it this year. So I expect much the same as we have seen. Some good, some bad. Average overall.

For a QB? Wayyyy more than 3 years
Dak is already an above average QB, right? Most would agree. Just think if he had any semblance of competent coaching. If Dak doesnt improve, it's because we failed him.

I think Kitna might be the guy to get Dak over the hump, regarding footwork and mechanics. It won't happen all at once, obviously, but I think by mid-season, we may be seeing a more complete and consistent Dak Prescott.............Fingers crossed.

How old are you to be bringing Landry up? 40s? 50s? 60s? Either way, since we are talking about Dak, no other Cowboys QB has started his first 3 years as good as Dak has. That's a fact. That's not good enough for you? Dak's numbers are better than Goff's and Wince's, yet you would rather take them over Dak? But you want to give advice about nonsense? SMH
I guess winning a super bowl in year 3 doesn't matter to you. That's a fact lets see if Dak can match a superbowl in 4 like another Dallas QB.

Really? "Can't throw the football" Then how did he get over 10,000 yards and 85 tds? Can't? Not like Brees or Brady or Rodgers, I would agree, but you can't make black and white, all or nothing statements about ANY NFL player, they ALL have things they can't do well, like Brady can't run like Dak, Brees can't take on hits like Dak and Rodgers can't stay healthy like Dak.

It's a matter of degree...

Maybe you should go back and read what I quoted. There's nothing in it saying Dak can't throw.

I didn't say completion % is accuracy, that's your statement. His inaccuracy rears it's head when he has poor footwork. Fix the footwork and you fix his inconsistency.

The other piece of that is that if you give him more than one healthy starting OL you fix the problem because he has more than two seconds to throw. Its funny how "Dak can't throw" and "Dak has no pocket presence" only pop up in posts when more than half of our OL is injured.

That's not necessarily true. It could be that he peaked. I don't think that is the case, but it doesn't automatically mean that anyone failed him. There are things HE can do to improve himself. It's up to him to take those steps.

It's not just up to him to take those steps, it's up to many people including himself.

Good post..........but there are a couple of folks here who hate Dak, and exaggerate so much that I wouldn't be at all surprised if someone said he shouldn't have been drafted.

I hear you but someone would have to show me. I really believe it's the one thing most folks agree on. And "hate" is a strong word. Anyone that doesn't believe Dak has the skill set to be a franchise QB or is a cheerleader for the team is labeled as a hater so that word has become pretty meaningless, as far as I'm concerned.

won a super bowl in season 2, (again in season 4) so I think Tom Brady was Tom Brady before 3 seasons.

Yeah, he won it all by his little self. All you need to win SBs is a top quarterback, the rest of the team can be total crap.

Yeah hater has become short hand/lazy way of saying I disagree with your opinion but don't want to have to actually defend my pov so you're a hater.

I wasn't referring to your post, I was quoting Risen Star's post, which you replied to and said it was an "honest evaluation" of Dak. Did you disagree with Risen Star's post? If not then why did you agree with him?

I agree, it's become more of an insult than a descriptor. But in this case, a couple of posters here speak of Dak with such vitriol and venom, you'd think he was Osama Bin Laden. They say harsher things about him than I say about Michael Vick, who's a complete POS.

Go look at the stats of Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Tony Romo after three years in the league. Giving them more than three years seems to have been a good idea.
Drew Brees only became an elite player when he teamed up with Sean Payton. We can only wish that can happen next year.
Tony Romo basically had to become his own offensive coordinator to flourish.
Aaron Rodgers is an elite talent that Dak will never, ever be close to. Not a fair comparison.

Dak's abilities, such as they are, will only be maximized with better coaching. Keep him with Jason Garrett and this is basically what you will get. Jon Kitna may help a bit, but he's not turning Dak into Patrick Mahomes anytime soon.

The primary responsibility falls on him in the off-season to work on certain things before camp starts. So yea, it is up to him since he's the QB who has issues that need to be fixed. Management would be stupid to not do everything it can to help him, but it's still his job.
