I have never seen this fan base as down as they are now. This includes the late 80s and Campo years. At least those teams had some hope in the future
Well, you can’t use the late 80’s because there was no Internet then. The Internet, as we all have found out, changes the tone of everyone’s conversation.
As for the Campo years, nobody was happy, but the expectations were too low for people to get their hopes up, like coming into this season. There might not have been this much gnashing of teeth after one win, but nobody expected much out of Campo and those teams.
If this team keeps losing, you’d probably see it settle down to what it was like under Campo in the early 2000’s. The expectations would go away. Part of this community would stop coming here, and overall there would be less outpouring of discontent. At least we would hear less, IMO.
But there is no doubt that the Internet is a less friendly place than it was in 2001. The tone has become less cordial, snark and sarcasm is now the language of the WWW.
The only way this place won’t be complete disdain is if the Cowboys win big. Even then you’d have people complaining but not as many for sure. The only
real way to clean it up is for Dallas to go on a deep playoff run and have the people that enjoy Dallas losing just go away. As you saw last year, a 12-5 season did little to quieten the “27 years” crowd.
They’ll have to win in the playoffs, and that is completely on the team to do so. If they’re tired of hearing it, then they’ll have to do something about it, and for that, there is only one way to remedy it.
Win.
