Dak comparisons

It’s not just because they’re black. Nothing alike?? They are very much alike. Both have accuracy isssues, but try to play a similar style of efficient football. Neither were very fast, but had the ability to move in the red zone. McNabb was never a big down down the field passer and neither is dak. Dak is also a throw first qb, so I’m not sure if you’re saying he’s not.

I distinctly remember McNabb tearing apart our defense almost every game and more often than not most of those points came from long passes.

His TD to int ratio was only average last year....and Taylor is a better runner.
Dak is sturdier though, and a bit taller.

I only see the Alex Smith comps from Smith’s earlier years.

The only comparisons with Smith are in his later years. His early years were a joke compared to Dak's.

Jacoby Brissett

Another ridiculous comparison.

It's apparent too many people just go by feelz off the top of their heads - crazy expectations coupled with no knowledge of statistical performance relative to his peers.

I'm done with this thread. Nonsense abounds.

Jeff Hostetler. I read everyone's comparisons, and just didn't agree with them for various reasons. It's not about stats because people don't take into account teams these guys played with.

Jeff is as close as I can come.

never thought comparing QBs was very helpful - If I had to compare Dak to a past QB - he reminds me of Warren Moon.

Dak's is very positive guy, a good leader, pound per pound a good athlete, and very well coordinated. He can make plays. The talent is there !

coaching is another issue

I cant really think of a good one.

To me, closest it reminds me of is probably Wilson, when Wilson had pass protection and a run game.

Efficient throwers, good passer ratings, keep turnovers down. Tough, can make plays with their feet.

Alex smith is the best comparison imo. Similar playstyles and strengths/weaknesses. I’ve made this observation in other threads.

Of course others will only compare DP to other black quarterbacks because.. reasons.
This is the correct answer. Watching Smith here in KC, I completely agree. What I hope happens is Dak develops into the 2017 version of Smith this season. Smith had an amazing season last year. I hope Dak figures it out this year.

Warren Moon?
The silky smooth , poetry in motion armed, not so mobile, pure passer?
That Warren Moon?

Why doesn’t his stats or gameplay show it?
Don't know about stats, but gameplay yes. He makes far more NFL level throws than Dak, he is more accurate than Dak, and with far less protection.

I wouldn't describe Moon as "not so mobile". He'd roll right or left with equally devastating effect. So can Dak. Combined with the knack both have for throwing a receiver open that can be hard to stop.

But this is why I said there's not much to be gained comparing one QB to another. Each is unique. To each his own, I find most of the comparisons above odd.

IMO, Dak is wildly under rated. And the talent around him in 2017 wildly over rated. This was a *very* Dak friendly off season. The OL is shored up and they added serious speed. Go back to the core system and just execute, the talent is there.

Steve McNair carried that team year in and year out. Do you think Dak can carry us without a good supporting cast?
didnt he last year...in the midst of his worst season as a pro???
no Zeke.
swinging gate at swing tackle.
and its not like he got any help from his receivers.
but hopefully...going forward...he doesnt have to carry us without a good supporting cast...bad way to be.

Yeah
The best comp to Dak is Dak

Hoping he has a great year

Dak is RGIII after 2 season, the question becomes who is Dak after his 3rd season? Is he our franchise QB for the next 10 years or is he just another QB who's star burned out after a monster rookie season. No excuses after this season for Dak, 3 years and 48 games as an NFL starting QB will be enough to know who he is and whether or not he is our franchise QB for the forseeable future.
