Here are the options with Dak

1. Cut him and rebuild. Cost is 89M in dead 2023 cap space.
2. Plan to replace him after the 2023 season. Cost is a 49M cap hit this year.
3. Extend him out to lower his cap hit and try to build a better team around him.

Guess which option the Cowboy brain trusts are most likely to choose? Dak's contract was made to restructure and that's exactly what the team will do. Dak's not going anywhere anytime soon.
1.- it is impossible to cut him, it will be the same as having him in the team since they will not have money to do anything,
2.- is the same case as point 1
3.- If there's no money, they won't be able to build a good team around him, and even if they find a way, as long as Dak is the QB, Dallas isn't going to get anywhere.

the only real options

1.- Negotiate with him for a salary and contractual reduction
2.- Negotiate with him so that he wants to change to another team, since due to the non-trade clause, the team cannot change him, but Dak can request to go to the team that he wants, and this is where the negotiation comes in, make him see that He is not required in Dallas, and look for a team that wants him and that Dak wants to leave,

Jerry knows that there are enough fans that don't understand football that will stick with the new Cowboys regardless of losing. He can offer up any excuse and they will eat it up like cake. Some really don't care that the Cowboys don't achieve greatness because they are so caught up in their fantasy football stats.
True Cowboys fans are just out of luck, and have been for the last 25 years. Jerry doesn't care about them.

I have never understood the cap thing... can you be kind enoug to explian the dead cap space etc etcetc please?
The cap is the total amount of money a team can spend on player‘s wages (salaries, bonuses, dead cap space from cut players).

When a team signs a player to contract, his signing bonus gets spread over the life of the contract and is added to the amount of cap space he takes up each year (in addition to his salary, and any other bonuses). When he is cut, the left over amount of signing bonus is absorbed immediately into the cap space (versus being spread over the rest of the life of the contract if he weren’t cut). That’s where the idea of dead cap space comes from — when a player is cut, and the rest of his signing bonus counts against the cap (and cannot be used).

Cutting after a certain date (June 1) allows you to spread the dead space over two years, instead of one.

Often times contracts are structured such that the team can more easily cut the player and not take a huge dead cap hit before the contract ends.

Restructuring contracts by adding years, or converting roster bonuses to signing bonuses allows teams to manipulate how much a player counts against the cap.

This is the very basics of NFL contracts. I am not an expert.

JJ likes DAK and his personality and has a nice friendly relationship with him. Dak is going no where.

I like how he says "on earth" as though American Football extends beyond the NFL.

Geno, Goff, Cousins, Tua, Lawrence, Herbert, Carr all had better years and we haven't even talked about the big hitters.

And before anyone says "Dak missed time", please consider he's #1 in INTs while missing all that time. What do you think he would have done with those extra games? Dude was on-pace for an Eli Manning-type season.

Unfortunately you are correct imho Jerry will keep throwing $$$ at his QB, he is never ever going to admit he was wrong. McDummy will agree with anything Jerry says as long as those checks keep rolling in.

You are having to step very carefully to find something to post about, aren't you? It must be hard to try and find a way to push Dak after everyone knows now that he is not the leader they thought he was.

Didn’t Eli win a SB or 2?

1 and 2 arent options. 2 might be an option if we have a top 3 pick which we wont.

3 is the option and the correct one. If Dak cant win with the talent then how can some rookie? Do you people even bother to think these posts through?

And you are right, Dak isnt going anywhere. Until the Cowboys have a QB better, he shouldnt go anywhere.

This is the first year Dak has been reckless with the ball. Jerry needs to wait one more year before giving any extensions. They need to see if this becomes a pattern of throwing game changing Dak's.

I think Dak gets extended and they bring in a new OC and hope that fixes Dak and his interception problem.

Maybe go to more of a WCO system where there are no option routes, so the chances of Dak and the recievers not being on the same page is diminished. Dak will know exactly what route every receiver is running and where they will all be, this should reduce his interception rate.

If it doesn't...........well, at that point it becomes crystal clear that your QB cant read a defense and you need to find another one.

Another local media guy who slobbers over the team and can't be objective.
To mock a fan who makes a valid point. One that Micah Parsons made also.

Hey Jeff, go tell Micah how to "do sports"

How lame.
