Trade him to GB

Spotrac after these moves has us at $11 million in cap space

Trade Dak to GB - $24 million hit
Release - Zeke and Lewis
Restructure: Tank, Martin, Gallup
Dak has a no trade clause. How many times do we have to go through this every single day.

Ranking him doesnt matter when his weakness appears to be that he can't step up to face adversity. He's a brilliant QB when everything's in his favor, but to win a SB he's going to face something unexpectedly going wrong on the field, which HE will need to correct.

We know he's a 6-8 best QB: the yards, point's, Offense Ranking tell's us .....it's just that doesnt win Championships.

We should be churning QBs as a matter of course. Nothing against Dak, that's just smart football. Dak on his rookie contract was a great deal. At 40mil a year, not so much.
We got Dak in the 4th. We just lost to Mr Irrelevant. You can afford to run QBs on cheap rookie contracts. It courts disaster to run them on free agent contracts.
There is QB talent coming up in the dray. We should bring in more and work on developing it.
Good post. If you don't want to play in the 50m/year QB arena...then you have to have a culture, plan and strategy in place that allows you to field a competitive team without having to pay a QB 50m. The culture from the scouts, to the head coach to the o coordinator to the QB coach have to all be in sync. Then you have to have a defense that protects your young QB and allows you to be patient with the running game when it gets off to a slow start. Winning games with Mr Irrelevant doesn't just "happen"!

The question is...at Jerry's advanced age...and his insistence to be in control...is he willing to lay the foundation with this philosophy and give it time to grow?

This is the first year Dak has been reckless with the ball. Jerry needs to wait one more year before giving any extensions. They need to see if this becomes a pattern of throwing game changing Dak's.
We split the difference and move $20m into the 2026 'Void' year.

He’s 100% going to be extended, regardless of wether people like it or if he deserves it.
They can’t afford to cut him because his cap hit would be too much and they can’t afford to leave him on his current deal because it handicaps resigning any players they need to.
The only option is to redo his deal… Sadly we’ll probably be in a similar position in a few years.
Credit Dak and his agent for putting together a contract that had a poison pill in it that Jerry swallowed up.
Hopefully we’ll resign the players we want who deserve it… but don’t go expecting any marquee free agents coming in.
I am on record saying keeping Garrett around for 10 years was Jerrys biggest mistake outside of the breakup with Jimmy.

It all points back to him. Then extended to Kellen Moore.

Listen, the version we are seeing of Zeke can be attributed to Garrett. He ran him on first, he ran him on 2nd, he threw it to him or asked him to block on 3rd. That is a LOT of hits. He was trying to re-create the 90s. You cannot do that in todays NFL. The athletes are too big and strong...and the advantage our OL had in the 90s is not the advantage we have today. Zekes people were not going to let Garrett use him up and throw him out with the trash...so they got ahead of it and got compensation for his usage rate.

Now let me move to the passing game. Which requires throws into tight windows. It gets you WRs beat up because the defenders are all over you because this passing game does not scheme you into space where you can run after the catch. That puts a tremendous amount of pressure on your QB/WR to be in sync. Dez was also beat up in this offense. Jason looked at football as a tough man contest, beat the man in front of you. Be more physical than the man in front of you

Never understood all the reports of Garrett being the first one at the facility and the last one to leave. Every team we played has always said they knew what we were going to do, so what was Garrett doing all this time he was burning the midnight oil?

After his last stint with the Giants...I cannot imagine another NFL team letting Garrett near their sidelines.

If we re-do Daks deal...we have to strengthen our defense and get a stable of RBs. To win with the Garrett offense you have to lead and stick with the run game. And you have to have a defense that will protect the offense until the run game breaks the other teams will. I can still see visions of Micheal Irvin screaming on the sideline about breaking another teams will by running it all d*amn day if they have to. Those 90s teams were a run team with strong defense. Troy sacrificed a lot for the good of the team. He would go 16 - 20 with no picks and a TD or 2. That was our best formula to win.

Not saying I am a fan of this approach in 2023. But if you keep Dak around...that is the best way to give this version of the Cowboys a chance. Trying to throw it 50 times a game with this QB and this passing game will not beat a good defense.

Someone posted a stat yesterday showing how this offense was #1 or top 3 entering the playoffs multiple times under Garrett and now Moore. It also showed how Romo and now Daks numbers dropped significantly in the playoffs. If the front office was/is paying attention...that should be all the proof they need that you cannot rely on this passing offense to win at the highest levels.

As with Garrett....if a player/coordinator's not going to do it on the up slope when they're full of innovation, then they're hardly going to morph into something they're not.

Another local media guy who slobbers over the team and can't be objective.
To mock a fan who makes a valid point. One that Micah Parsons made also.

Hey Jeff, go tell Micah how to "do sports"

How lame.
I didn’t mock anyone. He asked why would anyone want Dak. So I presented someone who did.

Why such a lame response from you?

I don't care which option. I'll be supporting the loser every game. I like loser quarterbacks with chicken size brains running my team.

Why would he want to stay with a team that doesn't want him?
Which is the question he will ask himself after the 2023 season if he doesn't perform and get to a conference title game at least. The pressure and criticism today is nothing compared to what it could be next January. He might want out if that happens. But hey, money talks.

Nope, he only had Lamb vrs Bucc's and he was successful enough. The difference is that he couldn't up his game vrs 9ers once Pollard went down and the Offense was passed to his shoulders.

To say that he is one of the best 6-8 QBs available is madness at this point. He was one of the top 5 QBs in his rookie year and has been sliding ever since. He is a top 10-12 at most and when you factor in his contract he is basically a negative player.

I swear if it wasnt for JJ having a massive hand building the cowboys into "America's team" and what followed, Jerry could argurably be one of the worst owners of any sports team ever.

Now don't get wrong Jerry is incredibly good if not the best at building an "entertainment" franchise but those superbowls set everything in motion.
