It made all of the difference in the world yesterday and provided big plays through the air for our offense.

Why did it take until week 17 of the season for him to finally start doing this?

Extending plays and improvising outside of the scheme clearly could take him to another level but all year we have seen him sit in the pocket and take sacks.

They did it before, but as usual when something works, they go away from it the next game or set of games.

Then if some media person has the balls to ask about it. They give the standard, it depends on defensive matchups.
Therefore allowing the defense dictate the game plan, instead of them using the offense to attack and control the game plan.

This is another reason Linehan needs to go.

..I dont know, but it worked well. Lets hope Dak took notice too. Or maybe run plays that requires to run out of pocket?

Could not agree more. Dak struggles with his mechanics moving backward but he is so much better and more accurate when on the move.

He needs more roll outs called not just because he is so much more accurate but also because he is a legit run threat. Defenses love it when Dak is stationary.

Point well taken and next year will be different with a new OC. But for the moment Linehan is a conservative OC and Dak is a conservative QB so they are going to stay with the run game that the team is built around.

The more I think about it, it was the right move to play Dak yesterday. You absolutely had to rest Tyron and Martin and did need to give Zeke time off. So you were going to have to pass anyway, the smart move was to play Dak and work on game reps with his secondary targets like Gallup, Beasley and Jarwin. Those three got 16 catches out of 20 targets, that is very helpful as you go into the playoffs.

He's always been good at this. I have to believe our OL regressing has contributed to some of the sack issues.

When his first and secons reads aren’t open he should immediately be using his legs.

I just think it was an organizational philosophy to turn him into a pocket passer. Idk why they would do this. Aaron Rodgers has been getting outside the pocket and making plays his whole career. Just gotta be smart about taking hits

I wondered the same, Catch. I’ve long felt that if Dak is ultimately “the guy” he needs to be willing to make those kinds of plays more often. It’s what makes Wilson special. He has flashed it at times, but not in a while.

You don’t scheme improvisation. Dak is a street all QB. In the NFL they have some games where they look good, but more often than not mediocre.

Dak actually just made the throws that were always there. His first two TDS to Jarwin were from the pocket down the seams.

The first one though he ignored Cooper who was his sections read and he was looking directly at him and then took the Jarwin throw who was really wide open. Without the blocking it could have been an issue.

I think a lot of the underneath crossing routes gOT Dak into a rhythm. People say Linehan hasn’t changed much, but that’s absurd.

Anyone notice that Dak has gotten extremely lucky with not throwing the pick sixes like he did last season?

Janoris Jenkins dropped a sure TD yesterday that hit him in the chest, Kamu Grugier-Hill dropped one that was gift wrapped back in November, and there have been several others.

Teams noticed same thing about romo, then kept d.line in rush lanes to keep tony in the pocket
Example Eagles, Bennett planted dak each game on attemp to roll right, other teams will follow

It's a pattern Cowboys use to get dak going, it's the out pattern that is predictable they are jumping early in the game

I think the coaching staff has a lot to do with why he sits in the pocket so long. Asking him to make 3rd & 4th reads but that will speed up with experience. Some pass plays also have extended routes that just take way too long to develop. This doesn’t help when you have a guard that gets blown out at the point of attack the first half of the year (Williams) and then an injured line late in the year. Scheme plays a big part. Agreed 100%, Dak is not a traditional pocket passer.

That ranks right up there with when something is working well, then stop using it.............I'll go to my grave still trying to figure that out.

Absolutely no reason why coaches do not roll out Dak both right or left a few times per game. Dak can see pressure much better and process his targets better. He also seems more willing to throw balls away instead of taking sacks. When in pocket he feels obligated to keep WAITING for someone come open......then sacked.. yuck!

He had 2-3 potential pick 6s in the first few series yesterday.

I think that him outside the pocket and using the TE is what JJ was eluding to earlier this week when he said we may see some plays we haven’t seen this year.

It’s one of the reasons to see Dak play the whole game. Gives them game time experience running these plays. And gives the seahags something else to try to game plan against.

Dak did these plays with ease.. That has to worry teams. Seeing him get out of the pocket and make big plays reminded me of Romo.

Great point. Dallas also showed Tavon Austin, but not in anything tricky. Its a signal the Seahawks have to account for him without showing their cards.

Exactly. I believe in they 2 point conversion they used misdirection of a fake jet sweep and rolled Dak out to either be able to run or throw. Expect the whole playbook to be thrown at the seahags.
