I look back at the Cowboys-Packers divisional playoff game in Dak's rookie season.

If the defense could have only held for 35 seconds....what a difference that would have made in the trajectory of his career!

If the defense only didn't let the Packers convert a 3rd and 20 with seconds left....the entire narrative about Dak would be different.

Because Dak was spectacular in his playoff debut. 302 yards, 3 TD passes, and a two point conversion rush. The "deer in the headlights" syndrome many claim he has must have been on vacation that week.

Orlovsky has Dak 5 for pocket presence and mechanics, and 6 for decision making. He doesn't rank him at all for 2nd reaction ability and rushing ability tho.

Tier 1 is currently agreed upon mostly as Mahomes, Allen, Stafford, and Burrow. It's hard for Dak to dent the positions that Mahomes, Allen, and Stafford hold. All 3 have MVPs and 2 out of 3 has a Super Bowl. The only one of those without a Super Bowl has been in the playoffs for 7 straight years.

However, if Dak has a banner year (upwards 39+++ Touchdowns) - and if some of his counterparts have a bad year, spot #4 is not totally firm. It can move around fast, and Dak is a threat to take it.

Right now Dak is in Tier 2...... #5-8 with Lamar, Goff, and Herbert. Guys who are very good at what they do but not consistently so. And they go on and off with making the playoffs. Sometimes they do sometimes they don't. Only 10 playoff wins combined among the 4 for an average of 2.5 playoff wins per each of those QBs.

To be fair, none of this matters. Dak knows it. Us fans know it. He knows all he needs is a Super Bowl win to change the mantra on him. His stats are elite. He just hasn't succeeded in the big games. When he finally wins one and Allen doesn't, he passes him. He wins two he might go to the Hall of Fame or Ring of Honor but if he doesn't then it will be he was just an ok quarterback who was a good leader.

Nothing new under the sun. Dak has had a couple statistical top 3 seasons already (with a couple outside the top 12 and a couple injury shortended) and sits about 6-9.
But if Dallas wins a Super Bowl he will be considered top 3 immediately.

I'm comfortable with your ranking. I was always comfortable with a top ten.Dak never received the recognition from his on FA base until recently
