I think this needs to happen sooner rather than later. I know it sounds crazy, but it just seems like he's taking the conservative throws so he doesn't throw an interception. I believe once he throws one, he'll start to sling it a bit more and take a little bit more chances.

I don't think anybody will be mad at the guy, we all expect rookies to throw a ton of interceptions. He's only played one game so I am anticipating some game changing interceptions to come, it's part of the growing pains. But I think an interception would help a lot more than it would hurt at this point.

I actually agree with everything you wrote, except "I don't think anybody will be mad at the guy." This site and the chat room will be flooded with, "You can't throw an INT there!" and such comments.

Why does everybody think Dak was so conservative last week? Apart from the two TE screens, he pushed the ball downfield pretty much like he had all preseason. The only differences being he wasn't in advantageous downs/distances too much of the time.

Is that true? I thought there was a post or article posted here that showed he didn't push the ball downfield like he did in preseason. I may have totally made that up, though. LOL.

He pushed the ball down the field and the game plan wasn't terrible. If Dez and Beasley catch a couple balls that they should, the talk this week is completely different.
Beasley and Witten were heroes. Those high passes to Beasley over the middle were potential career enders for a 5'7 slot guy. They were not only high but bullets....they could be caught but better for a 6' 2" WR.
In defense of Dak, the one that could have been a TD had to be thrown high because the blitzer got in his face. But I really get tired of folks saying Beasley "should" have caught that.
It's the type of pass the often gets tipped and then intercepted.

Yeah.. This does not compute.

I wish some people would accept that all quarterbacks, rookies and veterans, throw interceptions. It's the circumstances contributing to any interception that should be critiqued and not necessarily an INT itself.

Sturm actually did an analysis on his and you can actually see he went downfield quite a few times but just wasn't connecting

I don't know......I would rather he throw a couple TDs and gain more confidence that way

That's how I viewed it, too.

Honestly, if Linehan had just called the two TE screens as WR screens to Dez or Lucky, I wouldn't have had any real problems with the play calling last week. They gave Dak some freedom to push the ball downfield, and Dak made good decisions. They just had him in bad downs and distances too often in the second half, we had a couple of execution errors from players who have to do a better job supporting the rookie QB, and the two costly holding penalties because, whether we like to believe it or not, our OGs were physically overmatched inside. Other than that, it was a very good, close game that could easily have been won by either team.

26 targets to witten ad bead almost all <10yds
And the fact no long passes connected outside of swaim.

They didn't use any gifts Dak has last week. They turned him into a pocket passer. Let Dak be himself!!!

He didn't push the ball down the field hardly. Almost all his throws were to Beasley and Witten in short crossing areas. Pretty much anything thrown "downfield" was a prayer to Dez.

They ran him in his comfort zone shotgun the entire game and often gave him a run option on many plays. They also rolled him out some too.
No being argumentative here, but what else exactly did you want him to do? Although he's a mobile guy, it's not like he's a very fast runner or anything (4.8).

What we saw with Dak on Sunday was similar to what we saw with Weeden and even with Cassel at times last season, the Cowboys had Dak throw high percentage passes to avoid turnovers. If the running game continues to be inconsistent we're going to have to start getting the ball down the field more to create some big plays. We need some explosive scoring plays because we continue to bog down in the redzone. We drove the ball well last week but we keep bogging down having to settle for FG's. Garrett made an idiotic statement saying he loves Bailey and wants to give him as many opportunities as possible. Maybe this is why we keep settling for FG's.
