Will interject. Great question.

My answer is a he played like he deserved his contract. Afterwards he hasn’t. At $650k per year love him. At $35 mil, it is hit or miss.

Now we see which Prescott we get from game to game?

Will add, we can’t even decide if it is a slump or not. What is up with that?
I honestly don’t know

I noticed last game Dak started rolling out and scrambling a little more. The calf must be feeling better. He may have been hurt more than they said. They need to get that run game grinding again. He played well with the play action. But not much action if they aren’t afraid if you run at them or not.
Teams are now trying to put the pressure on him to make quick and accurate reads, but they are not putting a lot of effort into a pass rush . Dak is showing his weakness which is reading the entire defense and making the right decisions. Dak has struggled when he has been put in that position and the NFL defenses are taking advantage of it.

if Dak was playing like a 4th rounder he would be sitting on the bench if he made the team at all. That's what 4th round picks generally do when they are quarterbacks.
Since 1990 thee have been 53 quarterbacks drafted in the 4th round. Three of them have made at least one pro Bowl and that is Dak, Kirk Cousins, and David Gerard.

21 of them never appeared in a game. Only 13 of them, about one fourth, started a season's worth of games, 16 or more.

Half of them lasted less then four seasons. Only 7 had 1000 or more pass attempts.

If Dak retired today, he would have the 2nd most passing yards of any quarterback drafted in the 4th round from 1990 to present.

Dak Prescott has never played like a 4th rounder and that includes any point this season.

4th round pick QBs play erratic

Sometimes they have good games, sometimes they have bad games

4th round pics have usually have accuracy problems

Dak is just a 4th round QB that overachieved once inawile
Name a 4th round QB draft pick in the last 10 years that’s better

When he signed that massive contract he lost the benefit of being able to play like a 4th round pick. While he over-performed his rookie contract, and I love that he got a massive contract, he now has to live up to it. No excuses. It just is what it is. Get it done.

One consistent thread among the anti-Dak takes is the lack of any apparent rationality in the complaints. Here, you point to guys like Burrow, Herbert and Jones as presumed upgrades, while seemingly oblivious to the fact that Dak beat two out of the three head to head just this season. While leading he team to the top of the heap record-wise, with the one of the very best offenses in the league statistically to this point. You point to Dalton as a potentially “serviceable” replacement while ignoring that he was rather obviously not as good as Dak last year. Why are you advocating for a downgrade? Because Dak makes too much money? Who is it we should be spending that money on? Big money free agents we’ve lost like Byron Jones? Big money free agents from other teams like … who? Who was the last impact free agent? These tales are not only wrong, they are completely irrational.
You are missing an important point. It’s not where else they could spend the $40 million if you don’t spend it on Dak . It’s the fact that there is $40 million being paid to a player that is clearly not worth it. The same can be said about DLaw. Dak and DLaw are good examples of players not playing up to the level that would justify their very large paycheck. At some point, moves needs to be made with these players and any other players that don’t offer value to the team with their current contract.

Not true. Pick and choose who you want to spend money on, in theory. You have to spend big money. There is a salary cap floor teams have to meet. The problem is you have to overpay someone and in order to do that you have to get the rights to that player through draft, trade, free agency, etc.

if we aren’t overpaying for Dak, we are overpaying for another player. Fact is, unless we win the SB, all players are overpaid, if we want to admit our true feelings.

Well the team is 9-4. Somehow that gets lost in all of this. I'm not stupid and realize Dak is in a slump; but we saw over the first two months of the season how great he can be. Now of course it's a matter of either recapturing that and/or making sure he consistently stays at that level. Because I know this team won't go far in the postseason until he cleans his stuff up.

Since the second half of the 2018 season Dak has been one of the best quarterbacks in football; for those who chose to see what was actually happening. But for a long time people said he was only padding stats late in games that were already lost. Now the Cowboys are winning games and the numbers for Dak aren't there. So what would we rather have?

To me it's just haters singing a new line in the same song. There is nothing Dak can do, good or bad, to change how he is perceived by people who have already made up their minds what he is. The more haters yell at Dak fans, the more they are tuned out. And the more Dak-lovers pound the table in favor of him, the harder the haters bite back.

It's a circle here that will probably never end.

Haters are going to hate regardless. You can only control whether you will be a lover regardless.

He's 4th round talent and is playing as such.

And for all of those who are saying Brady, Brady was indeed 6th round talent. Tall, pocket statue, accurate thrower, but not really much of an athlete at all. Just a handsome tall dude out of college who played quarterback for a pretty big school but wasn't extremely impressive there. Not even a rocket arm to compensate for it. That's 6th round talent. Nobody would have guessed the sheer level of intelligence, competitiveness, moxie, and football IQ that Brady would have developed in contrast to his peers and most other quarterbacks in the NFL.

I hope he gets better at it with time. He has had other weaknesses and improved on things. Certainly he can watch film on teams every week. And certainly there isn’t much he hasn’t seen by now. He needs to scramble around and learn his hot reads..
