Dak leads the NFL in sacks

Sacks.....45

Everyone knows I'm out a Dak fan, but we have him for at least the rest of year and probably longer.

What can be done right now so we can make a run

Ideas...

Don’t let him drop back and try to read the defense.

More roll outs.

He does ok with quick throws to the primary wr.

He can’t throw slants, back shoulder throws, deep throws, or seam routes. Stick with quick short passes and screens.

Not that easy. Teams can intentionally play the rollout, which will just lead to more sacks. He only really rolls out well to the right.

he can just not with cole beasly as his primary receiver

Dak has very real issues with his pocket awareness and with holding the ball too long.
That being said, I have never seen people blame a team leading the league in sacks given up, and blame the QB primarily while trying to absolve the QB.

The OL is not playing well enough.

Better protection has to be a concern primarily at two positions: left guard and right tackle. Despite being without Smith, Fleming has actually held up pretty well in pass protection at left tackle. When teams rush four, the line should be giving Prescott at least three seconds to throw consistently.

Of course, a lot of the sacks are coming on blitzes because of several issues there. First, the line and Dak has to recognize the blitz and adjust to pick it up. Every play call has an audible built in based on what the defense shows. We have not been good at making changes at the line to burn the blitz.

The second problem with blitzes is Dak also has to do with reading it. When Dak does see it coming, he has to know what hole it creates in the defense and attack that hole. He often hits his back foot on a quick drop, pats the ball and adjusts his feet rather than getting it out. There's no time for that when a free man is coming. Either he has to hit is back foot and throw, bail out of the pocket to buy more time or throw it away.

The third problem is play design. When you know that your line and QB are having trouble handling the blitz, then you put in more blitz-beating plays instead of just trying to keep running your slower-developing routes. We ran two screens effectively against New Orleans because of the Saints' aggressiveness then abandoned the screen game.

Finally, one of the main ways to get teams to cut back on blitzing is to burn them deep. You have to hit the one-on-ones on the outside for big gains to get defenses to respect it and back away from the line. We've hit a few of those throws, but not consistently enough that the reward of blitzing us isn't better than the risk.

I can't find it, but I would like to see how many sacks happen against us on five- and six-man pressures compared to four-man. I'd almost guarantee that our numbers against four-man pressure are better than most teams in the league.

I don't think that Dak is given that opportunity to change the plays to compensate for the blitz. Maybe he doesn't know. Or the coaches don't allow him to. Many times I've seen him get sacked and the team just runs their long developing routes as if Dak has an eternity. No adjustments or routes whatsoever.

This is one thing where we need to work on. Whether its Dak, the coaching staff, and the oline. They all are contributing to the sacks and its not only Dak.

Lastly, our coaches are just silly. We were burning them with the screens early on and we totally went away from it. We do that all the time.

Is this a joke?

It just says 'good coaching' when you lead this stat .

Somebody is whispering the right things in Dak's ear .

Great job Garrett and Kellen Moore !

This is why, based on the number of sacks we're taking, I think we need to run this offense from the blitz out. Assume the other team is blitzing and pressure is going to get there quickly and build the play around that. If the defense goes with a four-man or three-man pressure, then you can get to your slower-developing routes.

There are many ways to minimize the impact of the blitz. The Patriots use a spread offense and have their back sit underneath. The back doesn't run routes. He simply sits in an open area. We have Zeke running curl routes right into the defense. I don't know what it is but these coaches baffle me. No wonder Dak doesn't have time to throw.

Secondly, I don't think the coaches are willing to change. They just think we just need to play harder and work on technique, yadda, yadda. That is where our problem stands. Coaches think its the players. It's not. We just have a stale plain vanilla offense that's too easy to defend against. We have a coaching problem.

Coaching is definitely part of the issue.

Sounds like he’s just a fullback playing QB. He can’t read defenses or make any throws, why the hell is he even an NFL QB?

Better pass protection, quicker routes to slow the blitz down, and Dak staying in the pocket, and making one on one throws count.
