What grade would Dak Prescott give himself for Week 1? "Average. I didn't get it done when we needed to get it done."
Dak Prescott on difficult catches Dez Bryant had to make: "I wouldn't think Dez would say any ball is too hard for him or is a hard catch."
Dak Prescott: "We'll get him the ball as it comes up in our offense. We're not gonna single out & say Dez has to get the ball on this play."
Dak Prescott: "We'll get better. It's no big deal. Nobody is panicking. We all know we're headed in the right direction."

Drew Davison ‏@drewdavison 2m2 minutes ago
Dak Prescott on Dez Bryant: "I’m going to continue to run our offense. If Dez is the read, Dez is the read.”

yep, this kid has his head screwed on right

I want nothing more than for him to succeed

a big part of that success is going to be Dez, though, and this coaching staff needs to find better ways to MAKE him the read

Or, the guy who is the read can just catch it when it comes to him.

I don't care who the read is. Just run the offense and execute.

Like the screen shot showed on Beas being open with 40 seconds to go, defenses will scheme to take away the short routes, given our history when playing backup qbs. If Dak's first read on that play had been the deep ball, or perhaps on other plays as well, we very well might have won. We say we're not holding him back, but we simply have to threaten downfield more often. We were getting excellent pass protection - no reason to hold back. Open up the offense and esp. if you're throwing to Dez, give the WR at least a chance to make a play. This conservative play-calling is killing us. C'mon man...

What I think people may fail to realize, or maybe give enough credit to, is this process right here. If you want to know if Dak is going to be a good starting QB in the NFL for us, this process is going to tell us. He's going to lose games and the Dallas Press is going to be all over him. The Fan Base is going to be unruly and basically, life is going to suck outside of your home or the practice facilities. When we get to that point fully, and if Dak can handle it, then you know you will have a good QB. It's not going to be unbelieveable play in these early games etc.

This is a good post. This is very similar to something I posted last year when Weedon was here. Then or now, I agree.

The fact that he grew up a Cowboys fan, he should know what the deal is.

With Weeden, I get the sense that all the checkdowns were mostly his doing. He had no courage to look down the field.

If we're going to lose a game then I want to lose it with us doing everything in our power to give Dez and Ezekiel Elliot as many opportunities as possible to have the ball and make a play.

Teams will gladly accept letting the T. Wills, Wittens, and Beasleys try to beat them. Get the ball to your superstars.

I never felt that way. If you watched Weeden before he became the starter and in College, he liked throwing downfield. I think that he was told what his reads are and given instruction as to getting ride of the ball. The Offense was clearly scaled back for him. I don't think it was a lack of courage to throw downfield. I think it was a lack of courage to go against his OC and HC.

I bet he sees how good Romo is now and regrets those past comments :)

It ain't easy being the QB of America's Team! I like his mindset, just develop that accuracy young man and you will succeed in the NFL.

Then trade him.

Don't waste our money on a 200,000 dollar car when the roof has leaks and the foundation is caving in.

Agreed. The salary cap should reflect the coaching scheme. The amount of resources devoted to a specific player or position should more or less line up with the amount of that player or position's, otherwise there is a huge disconnect between the front office and the coaching staff, whether they realize it or not.

EDIT: That doesn't mean I think they should necessarily trade Dez. It means he should be utilized if he is going to reflect such a high percentage of the team's salary cap. If he isn't going to be utilized accordingly, then he shouldn't account for that much of the team's financial resources. So something has to give, either the coaching or the player salary (i.e., a trade).

Fair enough, we'll agree to disagree. I hate Weeden. LOL. There would be times when I saw him pretending to look down the field, and pretending to go through progressions (looking down the field one way and quickly turning his head the other way). In reality, it was all pretending -- he wasn't really looking down the field, he wasn't really going through progressions. He was moving his head back and forth, knowing full well he was going to dump it down to someone in the flat. The problem is, the defense we were playing against always knew it too.

For what it's worth, yes, Dak did some checking down too, but I never got the hopeless feeling I did when watching Weeden. I see Dak back there and I see a QB with courage, he is NOT afraid to go down the field, he is not fearing the pass rush.

Yep..

Weeden has always been a vertical passer.

Brandon Weeden won more games last year as the starter in Houston than Dallas did with the rest of their backups after him.

It's our style of play. Coaching scared.

We have to pull off a win eventually but in no way is playing scared the most optimal way to play football in a league that is all about making the big play.

Easy to like this guy.

Right answers to the questions, too.
Yessir............it's his team right now.

Dez said they've got his back so it's time to put your money where your mouth is.

Weeden is Weeden, whatever the city. He won twice last season playing bad teams and supported by a good defense.

Now, I don't buy for a minute that we've got an offense predicated on having a QB ignore open receivers, but even if I did, we'd have won last week if we didn't drop the two TDs, or maybe if we'd gotten out of bounds with the plays we did have called. That's with the offense we've got. We don't have an aggressiveness problem, and we don't have a scheme problem. We have execution problems.

yea, I can live with a few ints, especially with a rookie QB, but we have to threaten the defense vertically. THAT will do wonders for the run game...
