With all the talk about Zeke shooting for the rookie rushing record its interesting to note that despite this last games bad outing, Dak is the one on pace to rewrite some of the more significant rookie passing records.

At his current pace Dak can surpass and set new records for;

Passing yards in a rookie season, held by Payton Manning at 3,739 yards.
Passing touchdowns in a rookie season, also held by Payton with 26.
Dak has an outside chance to catch or pass Paytons’ rookie record for passing completions held at 326.
Dak can pass Charlie batch for lowest interception percentage at 6 interceptions for 303 attempts.
Dak can pass Ben Roethlisberger for rookie season passer ratings set at 98.1% and completion percentage set at 66.44%.

Daks stats as of now are;

260 completions out of 395 attempts for 3,139 yards with 20 touchdowns and 4 interceptions for a total passer rating of 102.7%.

If the rookie performances of Payton and Ben are a precursor to the careers they had, I think Dak is potentially in place to be as good if not better than those two, from a numbers stand point. Dak has set a great foundation for himself and regardless of how things play out this season he has set himself apart as a potential great to elite quarterback and his first year has to be considered a unanimous success.

Dak gives Dallas a franchise QB for the future with great running capabilities that can scan the field and deliver the ball with accuracy.

What still needs to be seen is how Dak performs under the big lights of the playoffs and how he can perform in the clutch fourth quarter situations when trailing and when he hasn’t had a good game.

If Dak can show he has just a little bit of that 4th quarter Romo magic in him, then the rest of his potential seems to say he will be a great QB for years to come. I'm sure the coaches know what he has accomplished so far and the leadership he has shown, I'm sure its not hard for them to give him the benefit of the doubt after a bad game like this last one and keep rolling with Dak, not based on potential alone, but on proven performance and winning record.

Dak mania took a big hit sunday nite lol.
That was close to a cold weather playoff game, and he was sort of a bust along with some others.
Dallas offense was real bad after 1st qtr.

Dak is going to be great. But right now teams are simply coming committed to moving him off of his spot because they see he doesn't have the footwork to be accurate.

That is what teams have tried to do for the last weeks and he hasn't thrown for more than 200 yards.

He needs an offseason.

Agreed, but it has been fore more than just Dak the last two games. The offense as a whole has been terrible. The oline's pass protection has been all over the map, receivers aren't getting open and are dropping passes, etc. Combine that with the mind boggling play calling and the last two weeks has not been good for the offense as a whole.

normally people who need an off-season are not setting records with their performance.

Dak on pace to go 11-5 (not bad) and take his team to a wildcard spot. Yes, the Cowboys could lose out if the kid doesn't get it right immediately.

A bit out of date.

Still, he has a great chance of breaking the passer rating record for a rookie.
Also, a decent chance of breaking the int rate record...knock on wood.

The total yards record (4374 by Luck in 2012) is out of reach.

Anyway you slice it, his rookie year has been great so far.

No professional athlete has this mindset. If they did, they wouldnt make it as a pro.

He could easily break the rookie TD record also.

if seems people when reading something take it to a "logical extreme" and think that's where i was headed.

i never said dak could not improve. i never said dak has zero things to work on. i only said that he obviously doesn't *need* this to be able to play *today* but yes, it can help in every facet of the game, this time.

it helped romo, it helped aikman, it helped staubauch and it's helped every pro athlete out there.

my intent behind my post is that dak, while yes needing improvement, doesn't seem to be hurt badly but not getting that year in at this point. also, at this point, he's gotten more experience to carry him forward than a year of bench sitting and watching his feet move. i would imagine he spends a ton of time on game film overanalyzing things of his own performance.

better?

Agreed. As great as Dak as been for most of the season, there should be no doubt that an off season after playing an entire rookie season should be massively helpful to him.

100% agreed. but the comments of "oh he needs to work on footwork, put romo in" type stuff - to me - are just ways to make up stuff to get romo back in. to me, love romo but you don't swap around like that. you made a call, keep it or reduce yourself to a forum poster running the team.
