Dak, Parsons, CeeDee and Diggs are all due new contracts....who do you pay?...

My choice would be:

1. Parsons - Pay that man whatever he wants......no questions asked

2. Dak - restructure. no matter what ya think of him its hard to get QBs

3. CeeDee - pay the man

4. Diggs - trade him for picks

Diggs is good but we can live without him in my view
I don’t worry about that stuff until after the season is over. Let’s try and enjoy the current season instead of worrying about the future.
AMEN / I 2ND THE MOTION
Every year, more and more CZers get caught up in players' contract situations - thread after thread about how can the team pay \ keep this guy or that guy. So much angst and hand-wringing about cap hits, dead money, or what a player's FA value will be = the Cowboys can't afford it, or refuse to pay it.
2023 season is underway...review the players' performances game in and game out - and how they contribute to the team winning (or losing) games.

By never do you mean recently? Nick Bosa just signed after his 4th year. The other DPOY TJ Watt did the same. It will definitely happen. And even if it actually were "never" Micah is changing things up around here. When the extension actually kicks in is not the question.
After the 4th year is different than when they first become eligible though. Players can sign new deals after year 3. Wouldn't be horrible if Micah did sign after this year though as it should be slightly cheaper in theory.

pay parsons - i was mistaken he’s generational talent.
pay dak - QB are hard to find.
trade CD - love him, OU alum but you cannot pay everyone, and WR can be found in draft.

Everyone will get paid on that list. However, there will be other guys like Biadasz, Gilmore, Tyron, Pollard, and Kearse they'll have some decisions on next year.

Can't pay everyone but enjoy this ride we're on, lets do something special in 23 that hasnt been done in a long time. Worry about upcoming contracts next year.

Dallas will use the fifth-year option and an extension won't start before 2026
Normally I would agree but not here. No way on God's green earth Parsons will play his 5th year w/o a new deal. No way.........my guess is they will start nego sometime after this season. One reason IMO is to get him signed ASAP coz before injuries start kicking in. Wait until 2026/2027 to risk a new contract close to his positional life cycle. Not to mention I don't any way his agent will allow him to play w/o getting his deal/security ASAP.

Yea ok. Absolutely no chance this would happen. Dallas has to declare 5th-year option in May. They're not going to get a contract done before then.

I don't know why people think that first-round picks are going to sign extensions after their third year. Did it with CD, now doing it with Micah. It doesn't happen except with Zeke, which was a disaster. The only reason that a player would do that is if the contract is ridiculously high to account for what the cap might be at the end of the extension. You're talking about something like $50m per year for Micah to have any reason to sign an extension early.

Yea for extensions that start in year 6. People are talking about extending Micah after this season, year 3.

When the extension starts is the ONLY thing that matters, because it is pegged to the cap of that season. Micah would be totally stupid to sign for something now when the cap might be up $100m by 2026.

I’m trying to take this approach as well. During the season I just want to focus on what we have and week to week. It takes the fun out of it always discussing the business side of it.

I agree but he doesn't actually play 5th year option until the start of the 2025 season. That gives them all of 2024 and the offseason of 2025.

BTW.....notice CeeDee's 5th year option starts next season but they have already started nego.

it's pretty easy to figure out - if they were drafted by the club and performing top 10 in their position group we will keep the player at any means necessary - even if we get fleeced.

right no matter when he signs (outside of playing out his contract and getting franchised) it’s going to kick in then. They are going to make every effort to get him locked up ASAP though and I think he’d cash in for the security early especially because he’ll set the market regardless. guess we’ll see though

My choice would be:

1. Parsons - Pay that man

2. Dak - If he makes it to the SB a deal can get done but if not and the Offense scores less than 20 in the playoffs i'd let him walk.

3. CeeDee - I'd negotiate but not paying him crazy money.

4. Diggs - I'd negotiate but not paying him crazy money.

Yeah, you can pay them all as so many want- but the true cost will be lost depth.

We've seen this story before. There were many years where the starting line-up looked fantastic, but there was zero quality depth.

Depth is what makes this team special. How good is your 4th best CB? How good is your 3rd best safety? Etc...

Teams should be built for sustained success, not for some mythical "window".
