I love my kids, but they know the rules. They know the limits and expectations I have on them in school, athletics, and their general behavior and integrity.

I hate when excuses are made for Dez, or anyone, just because he's good. His incredible talent requires MORE from him than others off the field.

To those whom much is God given, more is expected.

Perhaps so... my comment was more in line with certain adjectives you tend to use when describing said player. They're often not flattering, painting him as some obtuse individual. To each their own. (To be fair, it's certainly not just you, you just have a way with words, as I'm sure you know.)

Going AWOL for the better part of two days and not communicating with your team........

Right.. but it's a given that Dez background doesn't allot for all the things you taught your kids.

For all the growing maturity he's displayed and as has been noted by media, at least on twitter, his foundation isn't the same as you, me, or the one you have/had for your kids.

So for me, I adjust my expectations accordingly. He's not a total boob-head or can't get right kinda person, but he WILL mess up occasionally. Never harmfully or with bad intentions, but his decision-making will always come into question. Knowing that and accepting that allows me not to be bothered when he does something like skip a doctor's appt.

Man, let me tell you.. there's a couple folks who think Dez is stupid.. Period. Not saying erod believes that, but there's folks who legitimately believe he's stupid and refer to him in those terms. It's aggravating to read, personally.

You get the feeling he just looks at Dez, shakes his head, and says "shut up and do what you're told."

Dak doesn't seem the type to tolerate idiots and drama.

No wonder he said it doesn't matter who his receivers are

Is a transgression that I certainly don't like either. But a gaffe doesn't a player make. Nor do his injuries, which I think cloud many fans view of him, as well (not necessarily you).

What's cool about Dak is that he reminds me of a young Romo when he first came on the scene. He didn't take himself seriously and was somebody you felt like you could hang with. Dak displays similar traits.

Preach it! And not to put @erod on blast, but yes, he has often referred to Dez in those insensitive and flagrantly wrong words. It's lazy. It's hate, if you ask me. But erod says he loves him (?).

Stupid, idiot, dumb etc seem to be words that are thrown around a lot here. I guess it's just easier to revert to simple one and two syllable adjectives to describe their disdain for Dez.

Keep Rhianna far away from him then. haha, j/k. But seriously, people expect all kids to be the same and that's not how this world works. My sister's were complete angels when growing up, but I was the devil. Same mother, same father, just some kids are worse than others.

If a person was born in a stable environment, that person may act civil, may not. But if a person grew up around chaos, how do anticipate totally correcting that person, put yourself there. In the future, when Dez is near 40 or over, he'll be a totally different person. People grow up, most of us do. So please stop acting like you're god because you don't do certain things other folks do. Money or no money, people are just different. And BTW, this was not directed at you WG, those people know who I'm talking about.

I can't stand it when fans make judgments about a players intellect. It is maddening. You can make mistakes in life or make a stupid decision without being a stupid person.

That's what is most maddening about Dez. He's not even close to being functionally stupid. He articulates his thoughts and emotions beautifully when he's in the right frame of mind. Better than most, in fact. He's insightful about so many things, and he cares about the people and team around him.

But then this stuff happens.

There are too many role models around him now for his upbringing to be an excuse now. He's a grown man with life experience now outside that background. A lot of players have had tough upbringings, but embraced the structure they were afforded later because of their talents. He's had Romo, Murray, Garrett, the Joneses, Witten, many others, to latch on to in that regard.

When you sign a contract of that magnitude, it's not an end, it's a beginning. More is expected in terms of discipline and leadership. It's time he respects that. Notice that he's never been voted as captain on this team.

Dak seems to have no patience for it. I was at the game Sunday, and saw Dak just turn and walk away from Dez three times. Just shook his head, turned, and walked away.

I'd address this, but I don't want to take away from this being a Dak thread anymore than it already has. So you can have the last word in this thread on the subject. :)

Fair enough. Just know that I love the guy as a player, and because of that, I tend to be harder on him. Just like my kids.

I think I have adjusted expectations for Dez based on how he grew up. I don't think there is anything wrong with giving him some slack due to the circumstances he came from. You don't just get over them because you become an NFL player. Emotionally, that kind of upbringing had to take a huge toll and you can't expect the impact of that to go away just because he is successful on the football field. That is pretty shortsighted to believe that. Lets face it, Odell Beckham can't control his emotions either.

What I do like about Dez is the intensity, effort and hard work he puts forth and while he may not be a team captain, he is not a cancer and he does not get suspended. He just does not always make the wisest decisions.

Imagine how much more Dez would be revered if his behavior and demeanor were like Witten for example or a Romo. How about an Emmitt or Ware. And imagine how much more productive he might be without his indiscretions and distractions.

Of course we tolerate his behavior because of his talent level but at some point that could wear thin. Then what are we left with.
