Dak Prescott is roughly at 25k (24,943) career passing yards for the Dallas Cowboys after 7 seasons (6 full seasons of play; 1 season loss total due to injuries).

Tony Romo is the Dallas Cowboys all-time passing leader with 34,183 passing yards after 11 seasons (9 full seasons of play; 2 seasons lost due to injuries).

Combine the 2006 season, when Romo took over as starter for the remaining 10 games - and 2010, when Romo started the first 6 games before being injured - 2006+2010 combined = one full season as the starting QB.
2007-09, then 2011-14 are 7 full seasons when Romo was the starting QB from basically the beginning to the end (out 3 games in 2008, 1 each in 2013 and 2014).
So really Romo tallied 8 seasons as the Cowboys starter, with 2 seasons missed for injuries...2015 and 2016.
127 regular season starts in Romo's career ÷ 16-game regular season schedule...averages out to 8 full seasons (7.94).

If Dak stays healthy and gets a contract extension, he would only need to average a very doable and well balanced 3,200 passing yards the next 3 seasons to accumulate enough passing yards to break Romo's franchise passing yards total record by about 300 yards.

Will Dak break Romo's career franchise passing record and become the Dallas Cowboys career leader in passing yards?

Once again, it's not seasons, but games started.

Romo started 127, Prescott has started 97.

Prescott needs 9240 yards in the next 30 games to equal Romo. That is a 308 yards a game average. Prescott is currently averaging 257 for his career.

Why does he have to do it in 30 games?

That's cool. Will Dak become the Cowboys franchise passing leader?

I just hate that losers own these records because of the way the game has changed.

At least we still have a winner like Emmitt on the rushing side of things.
Same with NBA. All these new guys never had to face defenders like the 80s Detroit Pistons and the lack of rules protecting them from just being touched.

just got to keep things in proper prospective.

Prescott has a slim chance to eclipse the yardage record in 2024.
4,600 yds in both seasons is a stretch.
The franchise all-time TD passes mark will take an additional season = 2025.
Romo - 248; Prescott - 166 = 83 needed.

To be equivalent. As an example, Eli Manning is among the top passers all time, but he did it by playing more games. There are QBs further down on the list that were more prolific passers, but they have less yards passing.

Prescott will have to play this year and next to pass Romo. If Dallas doesn't win a championship in that time frame the end of the 2024 season maybe the end of the Prescott era in Dallas.

Few NBA players have ever played as dirty as Bill Laimbeer did.
True, but those other cats were pretty brutal too.

the only thing sadder than the over-restrictive NBA rules are the soft players that take off games in the name of “Load Management “ so they can miss games to stay at the crib and play video games, lol.

Sounds like an excuse is being set up for when Dak becomes the Cowboys franchise passing leader in 2025.

2023 + 2024 regular season games = 34.
9,240 yds ÷ 34 games = 272 yds per game average.
Barring missing games due to injury or sitting out the season finale each year....breaking the yardage record has a slim possibility of happening in 2024.

That’s insane though. Essentially Romo wasn’t even the backup when he came into the league. Dak started his first year. People dismiss that when factoring in stats but Dak would’ve probably had a much better career starting off had he sat like Romo did.
