Both of the scenarios in this article are explained in detail.

If the Cowboys front office is playing with fire when it comes to Dak Prescott and his contract situation, here’s how the whole thing could burn to the ground.
By Dan Rogers Apr 21, 2024

The Dak Prescott contract saga with the Dallas Cowboys has dominated the headlines this offseason. And every time Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones, or Prescott himself speaks, more fuel is added to the fire as fans are left wondering if the quarterback we’ve cheered on the last eight years will be wearing the star after the upcoming season.

Adding more spice to this ordeal is the trade for former third-overall pick Trey Lance last fall. What was that about? The front office has been opaque about their plans for Lance, and the uncertainty only heightens when they speak vaguely about Prescott’s future. What in tarnation are they up to?

We don’t know. We think we might know. Some of us (raises hand) feel strongly that this three-time Pro Bowl quarterback who finished second in NFL MVP voting last year isn’t going anywhere. However, in the spirit of being open-minded, all doors are open. The Joneses are coming off their most frugal free agency spending offseason we’ve ever seen, so believing they might try to skate away from an expensive franchise quarterback to a much more affordable quarterback who is just 23 years old isn’t out of the realm of possibility. For that reason, we’ll examine both sides of the equation. Let’s get the bad part out of the way as today we look at the worst-case scenarios of how this could play out.

WORST CASE SCENARIO - Move on from Dak, Trey isn’t the answer

SECOND WORST CASE - Re-sign Dak, and let Trey walk after the 2024 season

If the Cowboys resign Dak, the Trey Lance trade looks like Jerry just threw a 4th round draft pick in the fireplace.

I guess we will see a lot of Lance this coming pre-season but looking good in ps games is not often a clear indication of readiness for regular season success. PS games usually feature defenders who will either never play a down of NFL regular season football or will only be serving as ST’ers and backups.

Not if they can showcase Trey in preseason and trade him later for a decent draft pick.

I don’t care about Trey Lance, I seriously doubt that he is the future. MY worst case scenario is Dallas signing the big three to mega-contracts only to never win a game past the WC round. It will be four to five more years of the same results stuck in purgatory. It’s time to sink or swim………

Serious question.

Why do you think getting rid of all our best players will make us a better team in the long run?

What have you seen from this FO that gives you that impression?

If we are assuming Jerry and Stephen are clueless buffoons, then why would removing the few good players they've hit on result in more playoff wins?

Ridiculous premise! Dak is our QB1

Trey Lance will get an opportunity to be our QB2 but at this time he hasn't even secured that job. Cooper Rush is still in the picture.

If you haven't seen the past 8 years of Dak already and come to the conclusion he is not the answer and would be like flushing all that money down the toilet, i don't know what to tell you. He is what he is...not all of a sudden going to be better at reading defenses, more accurate passing, more elusive and mobile, more nimble in the pocket....and won't wilt against an above average defense. Lance, just like any of the top rated QBs this draft, will have to use the PS games as his only way to prepare to play in the NFL. You also will not know if they are ready until the real season begins. So not fair to knock on Lance. At least he is not a fresh new rookie.

So what position would we be in now if we DIDNT have Lance? Wouldnt Dak hold EVERY card in the negotiating hand as we'd have no option (presuming we're not drafting a QB on Thursday)?

Did that guy get paid for that article? I suppose he should of been, as it's clickbait and drew in an audience, but the content is hardly profound. If he cant see that Lance was obtained to put pressure on Dak after France took them to town in the last negotiation then he shouldnt be writing. It could be commented that Dak's recent "Not trying to be the highest paid, NECESSARILY" wouldnt of been made if Dak didnt have pressure on him to negotiate.

Yep, there's so much written about Rush not being a starter and now criticism of Lance, it makes you think there's a portion of the fan base that doesnt want any pressure on Dak.

there are other scenarios .
One Trey plays good enough in PS to try as a starter.
Re-sign Dak, and let Trey be bkup, and dak play poorly or gets hurt. then trey plays poorly , they put cooper in and he wins 7 in a row to get into
playoffs ! Then onto the SB where he wins, and is MVP !!!!!!!!!
