If Trey Lance walks after the season what does that look like for a comp pick?
Pretty good odds of getting one but it depends on if he actually plays somewhere else or not. If so you may get a 3rd or 4th round comp pick. If not you're probably looking at a 7th.....That's also assuming the Cowboys are inactive again in free agency next offseason.

There was no Cooper Rush “fan club”. He was merely used as an example to show that the team had enough talent to win with half-decent QB play for the amount of dollars he was getting paid as compared to Dak. No one thought that he could take the team to the SB. But neither can Dak, and that was the point.
Then why isn't he included in the conversations now.........since Dak is the unfavorite? It's been overwhelmingly Trey Lance, since his arrival. Many posts were on the Cooper Bandwagon during his 5-game stint......do the research. Just sayin'. I stand by reading "fan club" posts.

I get more than you get!! They love "thoughts"
LOL... THAT YOU DO!

I wondered when someone would call me out for my low likes count. I was not very active for a long time and when the other forum closed, I cam full on board with way less than half of my post count. I'm gaining ground!

Huh? You mentioned a Cooper Rush “fan club” as if it was something recent. Dak was injured against Tampa Bay at the beginning of last season when he took over for five games. That history is going on two years now. I’m not going to go back and wade through old posts at that time. The only reason he was mentioned recently was for what has already been explained.

Coop never was the subjectmatter very often. That kind of player that kinda guy.

Except when Dak went down, these people called to TANK NOW! And Coop proceeded to play well enough to save the season. It's a good story, but that's it.

Any new conversation about Coop is brief and rare contract vs payoff...there's nothing really more to talk about.

Dak and possible hotshot Trey....are of course the main attraction here.

Cooper has been forgotten since Lance arrived. Fact on this board. Now all we need to see.......Lance on the field. So, let's get the pom-poms or critiques ready during preseason.......then we can go from there.

Serious question.

Why do you think getting rid of all our best players will make us a better team in the long run?

What have you seen from this FO that gives you that impression?

If we are assuming Jerry and Stephen are clueless buffoons, then why would removing the few good players they've hit on result in more playoff wins?
I never said to get rid of them and it is clear that I said mega contracts. Yes, I think the FO is clueless and it will get worse if they were moved. But, it will also not get better if all three are retained at a high price…..it will be much of the same, regular season wins with early playoff exits. If the goal is to win a title, then a reset is needed.

I don’t think Jerry and son are capable of a rebuild but they might get lucky on a QB at some point, that’s a start :muttley:

Agreed, and all this talk of Lance drives me crazy. He's only under contract for this year! The only way the Cowboys will have any real inkling about whether he is any good is if he gets extended playing time in the regular season. If he lights it up, he'll have plenty of suitors and can go wherever he wants. If he doesn't, well then, confirmation of a totally wasted 4th rounder. My money is on the latter, so maybe it's academic, but to me the acquisition of Lance was a complete waste of resources.
Exactly right.

Let’s say he lights up the preseason to a point where no other player ever has….still, who is giving up a first or second round pick to have him sit on their bench, then become a free agent, after having missed all the off-season work and all of camp under that system? No one.

The idea of flipping him for a better pick after preseason is absurd.

The only way it could have possibly added up was if Dak went down for the year earlier on this past season, and Lance played well in his stead. They could have considered moving ahead with him. If that happens this year, he will have plenty of offers and will be gone, or Dallas will have to overpay, when the idea is to not overpay at QB.

There was no grand plan here. It was Jerry playing with his toy, and showing the sports world that he has the power to do that, which he couldn’t wait to boast over. The advantages of not having to make one extra phone call are endless for everyone….as he often loves to point out.

Worst case scenario is Dak Walks Trey walks (he is also a FA soon ) and we watch Dak win with a competent FO like the Eagles...you guys laugh but THAT would be worst case scenario..it would also show the true ability of our GM...yes i know the "Thats great we would draft a QB!!! finally" to that i say what has this GM shown you that makes you think he will and if he will that it would be a good pick?

If dak plays like usual but that team still wins it means nothing.
If he puts that team on his back, wills them to win with true leadership and effort, might mean dak was sandbagging here.

There are many scenarios.

Not if they can showcase Trey in preseason and trade him later for a decent draft pick.
No one will trade for Trance at the end of camp.

That is what we did last year and he had no team to get reps and learn the offense. Why would anyone other than GM Jethro make that kind of mistake on a 1 year $5M deal.

Only way he gets traded is during the draft.

I don’t care about Trey Lance, I seriously doubt that he is the future. MY worst case scenario is Dallas signing the big three to mega-contracts only to never win a game past the WC round. It will be four to five more years of the same results stuck in purgatory. It’s time to sink or swim………
GM Jethro is going to let Dak walk and then draft 4 QB's in the 5th next year with all of his comp picks.

FO sucks. I think JR realizes big money players are not getting us anywhere. Call him cheap, maybe he is, but I think he wants a more balanced team vs a few players taking 50% of the cap space.
