Dak Prescott: overrated or overhated

Dak is a good QB whose salary puts him in that "middle QB" trap.

He's pretty much the purest pocket QB left in football. The game has just evolved to where mobility is that much of a requirement. Not a runner any more, arm strength has dipped from average to somewhere below, but he is excellent at reading defense before the snap and throws an accurate ball. Doesn't take a lot of bad sacks either.

What really hurts Dak's game is his lack of anticipation. He's not a super-fast processor once the ball is snapped - he is not bad, but he's average. And that limitation really shows when his receivers aren't breaking open and he's not capable of Favre-ing a bullet into a closing window. He compensates by doing everything he can before the snap, but he's got to get to a Peyton Manning pre-snap level to play elite ball with average reads and now below average physical tools. Otherwise, he can't beat top tier defenses.

It's like in week 1 vs Tampa Bay, when they baited him into pass plays by showing stacked boxes and dropping out post-snap. He's got to play a Princess Bride type game of "I know that you know that I know", and hand some of those runs off anyway. Romo mentioned that he learned to do that only late in his career as well.

some fans could tolerate dak if it wasn't for the Romo haters. You can thank a Romo hater for our hatred of dak........ you know the guys, they post in here hero-worshipping him over the team every day.

can somebody post a picture of dak shirtless for the worshipers?

I saw that thread, but didn’t read through it. Don’t know why his personal life would come up. Roger Staubach is about the only QB the Cowboys have ever had that didn’t get bashed by his own fans. Even after Aikman won three Super Bowls he got booed and fans wanted him replaced by Randall Cunningham.
You can thank the Romo haters for it. Anything to prop up their boy. It's pathetic.

Final score is a product of the entire Cowboys offense, the entire Cowboys defense, and the opposing team. There's so many moving parts beyond the quarterback... in fact, you've pretty much introduced every moving part possible.

If you want to talk individual metrics about Dak, like DVOA, PFF grade, QBR, or EPA, I'll play ball. But ranking a QB by their entire team's point differential is idiocy. If you're claiming that's the case, you're also claiming that Brock Purdy is a better quarterback than Mahomes, and I'll leave it at that.
Very good points. However...we should also feel that the QB does have (probably?) the greatest influence on the game...as a single player.

The same thing happens in every thread about Dak. The haters couldn’t even give him a break in the thread about him being named NFL Man of the Year. Just another opportunity to bash him.

This will be one of the interesting side stories this season.
The Chargers are falling over themselves over him but it's preseason OTAs and I'd say the jury is for sure out on this.
The Chargers have best hope Kellen Moore has learned from his playcalling and scheme mistakes. If Moore designs and calls better plays to help those Chargers receivers get better open, Justin Herbert and their team will benefit greatly. If Moore remains the same Moore with the limited schemes and playcalls, them Chargers will get tired of him quickly.
