Everyone can see how badly the defense is performing. But perhaps you don't see my point. If the team committed it's resources even slightly more evenly to the defense then it would improve but the offense seems to need the lion share of resources to just keep Dak afloat which shouldn't be the case for the most expensive player in NFL history.

There is a salary cap in the NFL otherwise I would not care how much Dak Prescott is being paid.
Darnold and Mayfield are both arguably playing better than Dak this season and they both had better seasons than him last year yet are being paid a fraction of the price especially in guaranteed money.
Bland and Diggs have both grossly underperformed since signing their contracts as well but the differential has far less impact than Prescott.
The team will go nowhere whilst they pay a reasonably good/at times average and even below average NFL quarterback like Dak Prescott elite money as though he is the best player in that position when it's highly debatable if he's even in the top 10.
If Dak was paid what he's actually worth in the market which is similar to Darnold and Mayfield then for a start Parsons would not have been traded.
People can harp on about Parsons and whatever but with him, the team in all likelihood beats the Eagles, Packers and the Cardinals (for a start surely Schotty wouldn't turn down countless field goals because he doesn't trust the defense). The team would be 6-3 and with a 50/50 shot of winning the division.
The front office is the problem including their decisions like paying Dak Prescott $231 million guaranteed in a 4 year contract.

I would agree. Dak Prescott is clearly a better QB than Cooper Rush, but the bigger issue is that the supporting cast seems to be a larger factor in team success/failure than the QB is. Obviously there are some exceptions to that in teams that specifically build their offense around fitting their QB like a Baltimore, however there are no shortages of examples of QBs going to better teams and organizations only to see their play increase. What Flacco is doing this year is the easy example. Mayfield, Darnold, Stafford, Goff, etc. are all guys that have produced with talent around them and struggled significantly more on bad teams.

The guy has cap hits ranging from $50m - $78m the next four years still remains an issue though. Thats a huge part of the equation where you could fit 3-5 additions to the team for that money. Obviously they need to hit on a few of those guys, but if we had the Cowboys in their current form + $50M to spend on the defense this past offseason is this team better or worse than 3-5-1 with Mac Jones at QB?

We don't just have Dak (CD, Diggs, Bland paid). You keep going backwards.....let's go forward since Dak has his contract, Sam on his 5th team, Baker is ballin' and Micah in GB. Now what. If Dak was being paid the same as a Mayfield or Darnold then whilst I would still prefer a better quarterback, I wouldn't have too much of an issue as the defense could have far more resources allocated to it. The reality is most teams will have handed out bad contracts to players who subsequently do not produce what they are paid but it's the quarterback contract which a team really can't get wrong due to how much they are paid.

May want to look closer....there is something called restructure for Dak, probably CD ....just to name those two. Now Mac Jones?.......are you just going to dismiss Mac Jones' team's defense, in comparison to ours and SF payroll too? Dak's money that bothersome?
