Tony Romo’s supporters have even more ammunition in arguing the former Cowboys quarterback was underrated and underappreciated during his 14-year career.

It took Dak Prescott exactly one season to rate higher in NFL Network’s top 100 than Romo ever did. The poll of 902 NFL players ranked Prescott 14th. Among quarterbacks, only Derek Carr, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and Matt Ryan ranked higher.
Romo, according to Barry Horn of the Dallas Morning News, never ranked among even the top-20 players. Romo’s highest finish ever was 34th after the 2014 season when he led the league with a 69.9 completion percentage and 113.2 passer rating in going 12-3 with 3,705 passing yards, 34 touchdowns and nine interceptions. NFL Network has conducted the poll since 2011.

Romo retired holding most of the team’s passing records.

In his rookie season, Prescott went 13-3, completing 67.8 percent of his passes for 3,667 yards with 23 touchdowns, four interceptions and a 104.9 passer rating.

Running back Ezekiel Elliott is the highest-rated Cowboy in the poll, ranking in the top 10. NFLN will reveal the order of the top 10 on Monday.

The poll, of course, has created controversy among both players and fans, so let this debate commence.

Love Dak but that shouldn't have been the case. Both are GREAT people for whatever reason ppl love Dak and hate Tony. We're blessed to have had both

Agree. I pretty much wrote off the top 100 list thing, but again having Romo ranked so low just continued to show bias against him. He was a borderline MVP after the 2014 season and he only got to 34. Complete BS.

Should teach to never look at top 100 polls. Romo will likely be a hall of famer. Dak has done very little.
Yeah except come into the league, post the best rookie stats of all time and take a 4-12 team to the 1 seed in the NFC. Not to mention getting vets to follow him more than they every followed Romo. I am not saying Romo wasnt a leader, but Dak is on a different level. You can hear it when his teammates talk about him.

No rings and you will have a hard time justifying he was a top 5 QB of his era.

Manning, Brady, Brees and Rodgers are all comfortably ahead of him. I would rank Big Ben ahead of him as well.

The championship bias is very real in the hall so I can see him being passed up. But I honestly think he deserves it. At least he'll get ring of honor status.

The NFL Network's Top 100 should never be taken seriously. It's been proven over and over to be a joke. Great conversation starter, tho.

Yup. Largely a popularity contest. Not really interested in re-hashing the Romo debate so it won't be a conversation starter for me.

I am glad to see Dak well-regarded, however. He is really a top quarterback already.

Why not? He owns pretty much every Cowboys passing record and is the second highest rated QB of all time.

The Hall of Fame has shown zero interest in either of those things.

Things that get you in the Hall of Fame as a QB:
  1. Super Bowl rings (obvious)
  2. Career passing totals (yards and touchdowns) that set league records, or were at least in the top 5, at the time you retired (Marino, Moon, Fouts, Tarkenton)
  3. 1st Team All-Pro & NFL MVP awards (Marino, Fouts and Tarkenton again)
  4. Being a darling of sports writers generally (Unlike Ken Anderson, who retired with better qualifications than Romo and hasn't sniffed the HOF)
Romo has none of the above. Romo has 0 1st Team All-Pro, 0 NFL MVP, #29 in career yards and #21 in touchdowns. And sports writers have (unfairly) treated him as a punchline.

Anybody with any sense would pick Romo over Eli but the youngest Manning has a better chance to get into the Hall because of the rings. As James Hetfield once said, "You know it's sad but true"
