Dak reminds me of a young Don Meredith

All this hand wringing about our QB needs to simmer down

Back when I was about 14 and first started following the team..

Jerry Rhome was the QB and they had just drafted Don Meredith.

Dandy Don was a running, scrambling QB that could produce big plays..

but was just as likely to throw an interception to beat you.

He went on to have the Cowboys in the NFC Championship in '66 & '67.

But he had tremendous ups and downs along the way.

This is very much the way we are experiencing DAK.

He can take you downfield on one drive and on the next drive..

fumble it inside his own 20.

But as Don played..he got better.

This next 4 games is vitally important to DAK and our team and we will not get there unless DAK continues to play well.

So hopefully DAK takes advantage of his opportunity to overcome last year's down year and get us back where we need to be.

Thoughts?
Hehe,
1. Meredith was accurate.
2. Dak doesn't throw many interceptions because he's too overly cautious. Meredith would throw downfield and Dak doesn't.
That said, he's nothing like Meredith except maybe the fact that they had room to grow when they were young.
3. If you watched Meredith play then you're definitely dating yourself.

Don funnier than Dak...

If Dak leads the Cowboys to a SB victory, his critics will say that Romo is still way much better than Dak could ever be. Just wait and watch. lol
It will always be some kind of excuse. Just like the saints game they said it was Zeke and the run game even though Zeke had 39 yards rushing in the first half. It's silly to me and I have to question those folks football IQ at the stuff they say.

Dandy was ACCURATE and, he did heave it downfield often as he had Bullet Bob scaring the be-Jesus out of defensive backs. He was also the beneficiary of Landry's innovative offenses which, at the time, were cutting edge stuff. I grew up watching Meredith and he's one of my all-time favorites. He may have some similarities to Dak in the early leadership roles and being well-liked by his teammates - but I think it's no more than that. I sincerely HOPE Dak can improve along the same trajectory as did Dandy - just don't know if the basic physical tools are there for that kind of long-term improvement ... especially with the nuances of today's league.

What I see is an old fart posting lol
I was in diapers when don played and most here weren’t even born
Don't hate me becuz I'm beautiful, baby.

Understood about not seeing Dandy play.

His play started the winning for us as a Franchise.

Everybody either loved Meredith or hated him.

Sort of like DAK now.

But Meredith won enough to get his job at ABC and the rest is history.

Nothing wrong with age lol
I’m not that far behind
Dandy Don was great in broadcasting though I never really seen him play
My childhood was Roger

I disagree. Even when Dak plays well he still gets criticized. He gets sacked when it's not his fault but still gets blamed for it. The list goes on. Some may stop with the bashing but if Dak wins a Superbowl the majority of his haters will still complain about him
It depends what role he has in winning the Super Bowl. Eli won two, yet many here won't give him any credit based on the "fantastic defense" he rode to two Super Bowl wins, the "lucky" passes that went his way and how quickly he has faded since then.

Are you one of the ones who criticized Eli for being a bus driver? Do you think he is great because he led the Giants to two Super Bowls? Or do you think he's always been average?

Blackie, if Dak can take the team to the championship, most of the critical talk will dissipate. The reason there is so much is the doubt that he can do that.

I doubt the critical talk will dissipate. Same trolls will be saying we got there only because of Zeke and the defense.

I get what you are saying but these folks act like Daks been playing forever instead of 3 seasons. The guy was a 4 round pick and yes there is a lot for him to work on and hone his craft to be better. What I find strange however is that the same folks will bash this kid while lauding Romo who never took us anywhere near a championship game let alone a title.

I love this comparison because Dandy Don might be my all time favorite Cowboy. However Dak will never be as witty and funny as Dandy Don. Turn out the lights.
