Dak Top 10 QB?

He's played in three playoff games and made two Pro Bowls in his first three years. Yes, he has earned a payday.

And tied TD pass records with Peyton and luck.
Only player ever to throw 20+ and rush for 5+ every year 3 straight.
Second most wins since turning pro.
His teammates BELIEVE IN HIM.
They go to battle for this man. Compared to the reports of raiders players losing respect for Carr when he cried after a sack.

And he’s literally not the reason we ever lost a playoff game.

Jared Goff and his .5 TD passes per playoff game got to a super bowl.

Dak has 5 pass TDS, 2 rush TDS and 2 interceptions in three playoff games.

In no order...

Brady
Rodgers
Wilson
Big Ben
Mahomes
Rivers
Brees
Ryan
Watson
Luck

Stafford, Wentz, Goff, Cam, Cousins, Jimmy G, and Dak are in the next group...I think you could argue Dak anywhere between 13 and 17.

He could become our 1st Ring of Honor before his playing days are done. Jerry can do that you know.

In the eyes of Cowboy fans. He is the greatest !

8th in passer rating since entering the league, 8th in passer rating in weeks 4-18 last season. Of course, this leaves out sacks and fumbles, but it also leaves out rushing TD. His postseason numbers are as good or better than his regular season numbers. His "late and close" numbers are top 2 or 3.

Put him on an average team and he may not be a top 10 QB, but he finna get paid.

Dak isn’t a top ten QB but he’s the right QB for us

And he will get paid.....I doubt it’s 25 million a year though

Unfortunately it will probably be more. I like Dak but I see his flaws that hurt the offense at times ( of course some will call me a hater). I do look forward to seeing him under a new OC so that is why I would wait on an extension.

Agree with your list but the issue is that only 10 teams can have those QB's and some do not want to "settle" outside that group but the reality is that they will have to accept that and hope they put a top 10 D and top 10 skill positions around him. What's the alternative? Try for what will be the top 2 picks in the 2020 draft or the top 1 in 2021? 3 or 4 of those QB's are close to retirement, think they don't want to reload? The competition for Tua and Lawrence is going to be fierce. Some team is going to pull a WAS for Griffin or NO for Williams, want to be that team? Those are the next two Walker trades, if the team in that 1 spot doesn't take them.

Of those top 10, only 5 have rings and 3 of them 1 each. If they build it right and coach it right, they can win rings with a Tier 2 QB. Alex Smith could have at least 1 if they'd built it right around him and that's who Prescott resembles to me. And whether anyone here likes it or not, he is the QB for the immediate future and they will pay whatever is necessary to keep him, that's what teams do at that position.

Look back over the last 20 SB's, did a QB carry a team through the SB? Either Manning? Brees? Wilson? Rothliesberger? And Dilfer and Johnson got rings.

Dak isn't top 12, and just barely cracks top 15 QB's.

$22.5M/yr - Dak will get more than 6 Super Bowl winning QBs, and 7 SB participants. (Cam, Foles, Big Ben, Brady, Flacco, Eli, Russell)

I agree the scale has moved up where lesser QBs make more than these guys: Carr (25), A. Smith (23.5), Stafford (27), Jimmy G. (27.5) and Cousins (28). FYI - Luck (24.6) Brees (25)

$29M/yr - Dak becomes the 3rd highest paid QB in the league. (Ryan n Rodgers)

$22.5M is Top 10 pay.
Is Dak a Top 10 QB?
Is Dak better than either: Jimmy G., Stafford or Carr?

Just putting real numbers out here for better discussion...for what it's worth.

I have him at around #14. I also have him in front of Watson, the guy in Chicago, and Jared Goff. And only Baker Mayfield out of last year's draft did I put in front of dak because I haven't seen enough from the other qbs.

Yeah, the way Dak’s piling up these participation trophies, he won’t have much room left on his mantle for a Super Bowl troph...oh...ur-uh...wait a minute...

I'm starting to think Dak is the poster boy for analytics in football. May not look like all that much from play to play. But the aggregate numbers over time seem to tell a different story. This is why the analytics guys insist that you can't really trust your eyes.

What’s scary is, Kirk Cousins, a below .500 QB as a starter for two teams, is currently getting $87mil / 3yrs, fully guaranteed. Does anybody here seriously believe that Jerry doesn’t think Dak’s worth more $$ than Cousins?

Jerry’s made it clear that, no matter what, Dak’s gonna get paid and paid LARGE.

Dude just threw down a quarter-billion on a boat, so overpaying a QB ain’t gonna faze him.
You got that right about Cousins being overpaid.
But pool 32 GMs in the league on who is better, Cousin or Dak, and I suspect 25 of them say Cousins.
Not even saying they are right, just saying...

It's such a crapshoot, rating QBs.
I do think Dak is somewhere in that mid range though....somewhere between 13-20

I think that's a realistic take. If Dak improves he could be legit Top 10 cause these old guys play may start to dip.

I like your cluster of QBs, somebody out that group is gonna get to the top.

Now I have heard it all. Don't trust your eyes? Said by a man that wants to keep his job relevant. A player tells me all I need to know about his talent based on what I see on the field. This goes back to grade school when teams are picking players and you have that last guy that wasn't picked. Analytics had nothing to do with it. I don't need some geek that plays hacky sack wearing thick rimmed glasses to crunch numbers to tell me how good a player is. He's probably the same guy that tells a girl not to believe her eyes.

I wish we take the money out of it and just ask is Dak better than Jimmy G, Stafford and Carr. The answer to that is absolutely. All 3 of these QBs have stronger arms than Dak but are not better QBs than Dak IMO. How much Dak gets paid is up to SJ and JJ. As a fan I could care less about how much Dak has in his bank and have faith that SJ will continue the spectacular job he has done with the cap because he has given no one any reason to believe that he will mismanage the cap. As a fan I worry about with Dak can we win games with him at QB....are we giving Zeke too many snaps.....will Lee eat into LVE's playing time.....will Tyron's back give out in a critical stretch of the season.....will Byron Jones play like he did a the beginning of last season or the end of the season.....how will we address the DL this offseason with the suspensions we recently had....will Cooper and Dak become one of the best tandems in the NFL....will Gallup take his obvious talent to the next level....I could go on but you get my point.

Actually, the more recently-introduced metrics like EPA and Total QBR don't make Dak look any better than passer rating, which has been around since the 70s. If anything, the new ones have him ranked a little lower than passer rating does.

To me, the main problem with "trusting" our eyes is that our eyes haven't seen every play of every player's game anyway. So it's not so much about trust as it is about that incomplete picture we'd be forced to rely on without the stats. As a general rule, the best stats are the ones with the strongest correlation to wins that come closest to isolating the contributions of an individual player, as opposed to those of his teammates. The win correlation is easy to figure out, but that second part is trickier.
