These three guys take up almost 100 million in the salary cap.
All three have reached their exploration date and are for all intents and purposes past their prime in the NFL.
They are all injured and we are winning games without them.
We could add 12 good players with just getting rid of Daks salary alone.

Opinion the front office should have gotten rid of these guys while they had some trade value before they cost us a fortune and get new young players.

The culture of the Dallas Cowboys is not conducive to players getting a second contract.
Out front office is absolutely killing us by not getting rid of these guys a year early instead of 3 years too late.

Who's going to take on Dak's contract? No One
Who's going to trade for an injured OL that is contemplating retiring? No one
Is there a market for a 32 yr old DE on the downside of his career? Maybe
Please reread the post.
100% right no one's taking them now if you read the post it's about the fact that we should have gotten rid of them before we paid them a fortune while they still had value.
Get rid of them a year early rather than 3 years too late

The front office way of building through the draft for core talent forces them to keep guys past their peak.
And their stubbornness to accurately rate what they have keeps some guys extended for longer than needed. Or extends guys prematurely when the jury was still out on if it's worth a big deal.
Unless someone falls off a cliff like Zeke or Dez talent wise, they keep them due to multiple reasons that a GM who was actually worried about their job wouldn't, imo. Even then, the GM still had a crush on Zeke and brought him back when it was clear he's washed.

Martin and Law will probably be gone next year. Too bad they will leave dead cap hits for up to 2 years.
Couldn't even say it was worth it due to a long run or postseason success, as both were injured for a majority of the season.

When all else fails, let's dismiss the dysfunction of this franchise and it's GM, let's toss out rational and obvious observation, roster indecisions, roster foolish decisions, past conversations by the likes of Dez and Cole Beasley about the front office mandates, gutless coaches, etc........meanwhile point at the QB and his pay, and look the other way at the Owner/GM culture we've been under since '93. And the very same culture didn't help Tony Romo, the beloved, as well.

Jerry's first priority , well maybe second after $$$, is to validate himself as a "football man". Paying the guys HE drafted and who achieve some success and notoriety validate him in that regard, at least in his mind.

Letting his hand picked "stars" go a tick to early (like Belichick is known for) is tantamount to admitting he made a mistake. Isn't the irony fascinating?

Our one hope, however faint it may be, is that Jerry is also known for taking too long to recognize and adjust for his mistakes, but then going full bore in the opposite direction. Maybe, just maybe, this current clusterfoo will settle Jerry/Stephen into a more middle of the road approach to roster building.

Maybe. lol

He was probably afraid Zack might have gone to another team realized the differences & wantd to retire with them. It would deprive him of his "draft thru retirement, he was my guy" story.

Our front office is clueless, and until that changes, we are going to be a mediocre team.
Not a lot of hope for the future until that dynamic changes.

Its easier for Jerry to sign the big names. If they flop he goes back to the "what were we supposed to do? We didn't have anyone better, and good players dont just grow on trees" argument. It's easier to justify to the fans rather than taking a risk to move a player and maximize their value before their decline starts.

If you bring back a great player and they decline to good it still puts the team in position to 'hang around the rim'. Jerry's top focus is being relevant. Winning championships are just bonuses to him. I also think he fears moving on from a great player and looking like a fool.

In my opinion, the Joneses run the organization as a club, not a business. Meaning that if you’re in their club and they like you, there’s an excellent chance that they’ll pay you huge money and keep you around for a long time. Longer than they should.

Strong coaches like Parcells were able to release beloved veterans on the downside of their careers like Emmitt and Larry Allen.

In many other cases, the Joneses ‘take care of’ their favorites and get the team in dire financial situations. And why not? There are no consequences when your last name is Jones.

Jerry thought this was a super bowl team. So why trade Martin and DLaw since they were key pieces?

Hindsight is always 20/20 (even though we knew Jerry was wrong, which ultimately doesn't matter).
That's our problem in a nutshell, "Jerry thought this was a super bowl team".
It's personal to him, and he is not able to separate himself and judge things objectively.
After the Green Bay playoff disaster, I would have understood a rebuild. Trade Dak and try to set ourselves up for the future. I also would have understood going "all in". Restructure every deal to create space to keep key players and add some more in FA.
The frustrating part is we did neither. I agree with you, I think Jerry actually thought this was a super bowl team, and that shows you just how out of touch he is.
