Detroit has the super bowl in their sights and no linebackers. Could have probably gotten maximum value for Micah from them.
And stockpiled some serious draft picks
Yeah, draft picks at the end of a round. You aren't going to be able to replace what Micah brings with some late 1st and 2nd round picks. We could've traded Martin several years ago but he was still an All-Pro at that point. I have no objections to Lawrence. I think he's way overpaid. Yeah, he's great against the run but that's not why you pay DE's big money. They have to also get to the QB which he hasn't been doing. But again, if I can see it, other GM's can see it and they aren't going to give up much for that.

There are a large group of people who think we need to trade away all our good players before they come up for 2nd contracts. That's not how you build a team. You have to pay some people. Are all your contracts going to work out well? No, of course not. That's true of every team in the league (if some of you would actually look at what happens with other teams instead of just bashing what our FO does and assume that we are the only team that ever doesn't get things 100% right. I guarantee other FO's aren't laughing at ours). But all your draft picks aren't going to work out either. If you trade Micah and replace him with a draft pick, what if that picks busts? Then you've just given away an All-pro and would've gotten nothing in return. Or maybe they are good, are you then trading them away in a couple of years? You'll have no team cohesion. Good teams resign their core players. Period.

I agree with you good teams sign their good players but we are not a good team we have a bad culture good teams have good culture and when players are signed to a second contract they continue to try and play hard players here play to get paid and then make business decisions afterward that is the problem.

After watching this go on for years you can tell the players that are going to become business decision makers Zach Martin was not one of those players but Micah shows all the earmarks of a business decision maker this is why circumstances alter cases and why many people want to get rid of our players before the second contract they have watched what our culture breeds here and it's not good

Jerry's problem is he thinks we are hanging around the rim and are close. What he doesn't understand as he has gotten a tad goofy is the better teams are playing with a 10 foot rim and we are using a 9 foot rim.

You dont built a contender by paying good players at an elite level (see Dak and Diggs) and you certainly dont build a contender by paying a loudmouth LB like an all Pro DE (see Parsons)

These three guys take up almost 100 million in the salary cap.
All three have reached their exploration date and are for all intents and purposes past their prime in the NFL.
They are all injured and we are winning games without them.
We could add 12 good players with just getting rid of Daks salary alone.

Opinion the front office should have gotten rid of these guys while they had some trade value before they cost us a fortune and get new young players.

The culture of the Dallas Cowboys is not conducive to players getting a second contract.
Out front office is absolutely killing us by not getting rid of these guys a year early instead of 3 years too late.
Thoughts on the subject
No point mentioning Dak he’s been extended and isn’t going anywhere. All the could ofs and should ofs concerning him are a waste of time. It’s pretty comical watching fans continue to moan and groan about his contract.

Once the pressure builds again expect Dak to go to the following team........I.R...........Injured reserve Players :muttley: as a wimp and cop-out his subconscious will lead him there once again!

The Cowboys will have 100 million in cap space for 2025 and can spend.

Who's going to take on Dak's contract? No One
Who's going to trade for an injured OL that is contemplating retiring? No one
Is there a market for a 32 yr old DE on the downside of his career? Maybe
I always read this, there will always be a team in the league dumb enough to take on a big contract for a middling QB. We have seen this over and over and over in the NFL.

If Jerry really wanted Dak gone, he'd find a team to do it and convince Dak it's good for him.

Was Jerry in Mississippi 32 years ago being naughty on Mrs. Jones?
The more I look at Dak he does have Jerry's eyes...... :muttley:

OL surgery isn’t rare.

Martin is a beast when healthy.

Don’t listen to the noise.

He’s gonna get paid in March.

Best guess: 2yrs 20M

We get left with the dead cap.

He is 34 and has been trending downward for the past 2 years to the point where this year he was at best a mediocre G. Maybe someone takes a flier and offers him 2 years 12m with only the first year guaranteed but even that is based on the off chance that there is something left in the tank.

No one will take on Dak’s contract because he has a no trade clause. He’s going to be here for awhile no matter how frustrated fans are with him.

Following that strategy we wouldn't have 5 Super Bowls.

Those were won when a competent person (Jimmy) was making decisions and the players we paid had actually proved something. Aikman, Emmitt and Irvin were all time great at their positions

Jerry's first priority , well maybe second after $$$, is to validate himself as a "football man". Paying the guys HE drafted and who achieve some success and notoriety validate him in that regard, at least in his mind.

Letting his hand picked "stars" go a tick to early (like Belichick is known for) is tantamount to admitting he made a mistake. Isn't the irony fascinating?

Our one hope, however faint it may be, is that Jerry is also known for taking too long to recognize and adjust for his mistakes, but then going full bore in the opposite direction. Maybe, just maybe, this current clusterfoo will settle Jerry/Stephen into a more middle of the road approach to roster building.

Maybe. lol
He is a football man. Just has not been very good at it.

Martin and DLaw will be gone in 2025.

I would have waited until the end of this season on the Dak contract extension decision.
- Having said that, they don't have a real replacement at this point.
- They could trade Dak for a 7th in 2027 and eat a managable dead-cap hit.
- They would need a legit replacement in place to make that worthwhile.

Its nothing more than the Jones' being lazy and comfortable in their jobs. There's ZERO urgency to be good at what they do. Their titles are not earned.
