The one thing Dak Prescott had going for him that last year's backups didn't was the presence of Dez Bryant.

The running game is better with Elliott and Morris, but was effective last year with McFadden. However, the passing game couldn't accomplish much with Williams and Butler as the outside receivers.

On top of that, we also have the added absence this year of Tyron Smith and La'el Collins (although technically Collins stepped in last year because Leary was fighting an injury, so that's a wash).

If Prescott can succeed in the same situation that last year's backups failed, then it will show that he can do what Romo has been able to do and elevate the play of the players around him. I know he already has shown he can win, which last year's backups, couldn't do, but he has been winning with one of Dallas' top weapons on the field. Without that weapon, the playing field is even and we'll get to see what he can do in comparison to what happened last year.

I'm curious to see how it goes and suspect that he'll fare better without Dez than Weeden, Cassel and Moore.

As well as Dak has played these past 3 games, he is going to have to look deeper down field and take those shots. In all the highlights they are showing his passes are 10 to 15 yards, the majority of the time to Witten and Cole. Yes he threw a 21yarder to Cole on sunday. Hopefully we will start to see him going down the field. He has it, but I want him to shut up colin Cowdump who keeps talking about Dak is a short to mid range passer

This game has trap written all over it. Many people are completely overlooking San Francisco. I think that their defense can present a number of problems for the Cowboy offense - Jim O'Neil runs a 3-4 that presents a lot of looks, and they are pretty good up the middle (Bowman, Hodges, Reid and Bethea). On offense, I can see them running Carlos Hyde quite a bit at the soft underbelly of the Cowboy defense, and with the lack of pass rush, even a scrub like Blaine "Sunshine" Gabbert can find open targets. A guy like Torrey Smith is a receiver that can give the Cowboy corners fits - he's much faster than any of them.

Dez did come back and it didn't matter because Weeden has no vision and Cassell has no arm.

He never came back healthy, which is why Dallas shut him down. If he plays Sunday, he might be similar to what we saw last year when he returned.

It's true that he wasn't healthy, but it wouldn't have mattered if he was.

I'd usually agree but Dak's mentality just screams Prepared and Focused. 49ers are still an NFL team, but based on what we've seen so far Dak will be ready and I'm not sure that Dez being absent makes that much difference.

I'm not over looking the niners. They're defense isn't as bad as whatever they're ranked at, they're playing at home, Hyde is a beast and is the type of back that exploits our poor tacking, Chip has something to prove and we're without Dez. They always play us tough and they still have a bit of a rough edge about them that can smack soft teams in the mouth. It will probably be a low-scoring affair with a lot of field goals, punts, turnovers and penalties. Like I told some poster here when he mentioned that we would lose by 10-14 points. Not happening. It will be a close win/loss, IMO. If any team is to pull away on the scoreboard it will be Dallas.

Somewhat agree, but we know chips offense as good as anybody, they have no qb, if dak protects the ball we win

Dez will be missed but the way Dak spreads it around I think he is up to the challenge
I love that he doesn't think he has to target any one player. Just go threw his reads and if it ain't there then dump it to a back or take off

While Dak has shown such poise in these last 3 games, game planning without Dez does change the gameplan. Like many have already said we were poor last year without Dez, but many blame the QBs last year. This may or may not be true. I do agree Dak seems head and shoulders above last year's backups, but I fear even with Dez at 50% (playing as a decoy), he draws double coverage. Yes his own CB and a Safety over the top. No other receiver on our roster demands such and it gives them another person to put in the box to slow our run game. I look forward to see how we handle this and if we can move the ball as well without Dez. Should be an interesting game Sunday evening.

This is his test. Is he better than the absolute crap we played with last year? #Believe

Well, the gauge isn't just being better, it's being good enough to score enough points to win without Dez. We know what those other QBs did without Dez, so what he does without him (or with him limited) should be telling.

I'm hoping Butler makes a surprisingly good showing when the Cowboys visit the 49ers. With luck, he might possibly take advantage of his golden opportunity and play the game of his life. One thing we can bet on is that he has every reason to go all out to do just that. We'll see . . .

He's in his 2nd year with the Cowboys now, so the scheme shouldn't be as much for him to handle as it was in the past. I'd be tickled pink if he burned them a time or two. He has the speed to be a deep threat if Dak can get it to him downfield. Let's pray it happens so Dak can overcome the stigma that he's unable to do so.

As a backup QB in training camp, I would imagine Dak has had a considerable amount of experience throwing to him. It should be interesting to see how it goes come Sunday, that's for sure. Anything can happen -- it's for sure the offense will be obliged to carry the load. Godspeed, 'Boys!

All I remember about last years back up QB's were how slow they were. Everything took so long back there to develop then it was followed up with a bad pass. Those back up QB's made the WR's look terrible. Here's hoping Dak makes them look good.
