"I had Tom Brady coming out of college as a rookie and then the first seven years of his career," Shaw told NFL.com over the phone on Wednesday night. "And I had the opportunity to work with Dak before the draft. What I noticed about Dak was, this guy had the same desire, work ethic, the same traits as Brady. Nobody wants to be compared to anyone else. But he was the hardest worker, guys gravitate towards him, he was the first one there..."

"I told his agents Rick (Roberts) and Jeff (Guerriero) 'I'm not saying he's going to be the next Tom Brady, but he has all the intangibles to do exactly the same thing. All Dak wants is to be the best. When he wakes up in the morning, that's what he wants. The most important thing for him was to learn how to play football."

"Peyton Manning, as talented as he was, as close to any player I know of or ever seen, maximized a lot of his potential," Jones said when asked how high of a ceiling Prescott has. "And I must say I don't know that anybody has ever gotten it all. We've all heard just how little of our potential that we really do maximize but that's from preparation and work. Everything we have seen, Dak has those kinds of qualities that when you think of Peyton Manning. You think of how he really developed his skills, how hard he worked at it, how he left nothing that he was aware of, how he addressed every nuance of his game, that's my picture of Peyton and know it to be accurate. I think that might be Dak's finest quality, his ability to look for every way you can to get better and continue to do it. So I think that there will be really dramatic improvement."

Owner/general manager Jerry Jones said part of his agreement with Romo, who signed a seven-year, $119.5 million contract extension this offseason, was the quarterback would spend “Peyton Manning-type time” at the facility.

“I can speak for Jason in this respect: Everything he is about wants more buy-in and more participation from the player,” Jones said. “So if Tony, for instance, would be here Monday through Saturday and be here from seven in the morning to six o’clock at night all over this place, then that’s better than the way it’s been. We’ll have more success, and Jason believes that. It’s certainly at quarterback but he believes it at the other positions, too.

“Tony is going to have more time, more presence. Not only is having in the offseason but when the season starts, beginning Mondays, assuming we played Sundays, he’s going to have more time on the job.

“A part of what we agreed with was extra time on the job, beyond the norm. That doesn’t mean that he didn’t have a lot of time on the job, but extra time on the job, Peyton Manning-type time on the job.”

Have you ever read any of the story’s about Romo’s life? His parents had to drag him out of the gym, he rode his bicycle in the snow to go play basketball as a kid, he threw a football in fast food parking lots until his friends got tired, he would stay after practice with Sean Payton to modify his throwing motion... the guy worked his way from undrafted to starting QB... let’s drop this work ethic crap. I don’t doubt that Dak is a great worker too. Most QB’s need to be in the NFL

Dak possibly the next Brady? I highly doubt he'll come close after this past seasons performance. He's much closer to draft bust territory than future HOF'er.
Dak is 22-10 ater two years in the NFL, those are not exactly "bust" type numbers.....not saying he'll be the next Tom Brady, but it's pretty safe to say not many will be.

Reading is just a casual hobby I assume

You're right, I never read that. I'm so dumb......

I’m not discrediting tony in the slightest but your examples just reminded me of childhood. I thought thats how all kids were lol

Guess we'll see next season. This year saw a sharp decline, but I think with the right coaching he can get back on track.

2 years:
22wins.
2 consecutive winning seasons.
12-4 on the road...6-2 in december.
during his worst season, still threw for over 3,000yds...21tds...111.1 QBR v the blitz...3rd best in the league.
Without his best player and best OT...we went 3-3...alive for the play-offs...finished 9-7...5-1 in the East...4-1 in december.
In his worst season.
DAK IS THE RIGHT GUY.
BUILD ON IT.

Dak regressed mostly starting with the Atlanta game. He's a young QB. Got to give him a chance to get better. The guy was great last year and I don't care what anyone says. No matter what happens you can't take that away from him although some will try.

Remember the time Dak was partying in the club on Monday night the week of the biggest game of the year at NY, then went and played like a guy incapable of reading a defense, throw on time or throw accurately?

Or as the Romo haters call it, “Dez’s fault”

I sure do.

If the point of this thread is to say that Romo didn’t work hard here and Dak does then my recommendation to Dak is become a slacker like Romo because whatever he did this year certainly did not translate to the field.

The entire thing is about a tireless work ethic and he literally says “I’m not saying he’s going to be the next Tom Brady”.

Still not sure why Romo’s work ethic comes in to question. He was known to be a gym rat and always studied film, even while visiting his parents and on the Cabo trip. Crayton complained that Tony always had a football and would constantly want to throw the ball around, which was a bit frustrating because receivers want time for their hands to recover from the season.

Jerry’s statement about putting in Peyton Manning time isn’t a reflection of his work ethic. I think it is a compliment to how much Tony knew about the game and his ability to influence the game plan. His knowledge is pretty clear when listening to him in the booth.
