Dak's work ethic vs Romo's work ethic

I hope Dak does become like Tom Brady and leads us to many Super Bowls but in the back of my mind when I was reading this I kpet on saying to myself that is what they said about Tim Tebow. I do remain cautiously optimistic about Dak though.

"I had Tom Brady coming out of college as a rookie and then the first seven years of his career," Shaw told NFL.com over the phone on Wednesday night. "And I had the opportunity to work with Dak before the draft. What I noticed about Dak was, this guy had the same desire, work ethic, the same traits as Brady. Nobody wants to be compared to anyone else. But he was the hardest worker, guys gravitate towards him, he was the first one there..."

"I told his agents Rick (Roberts) and Jeff (Guerriero) 'I'm not saying he's going to be the next Tom Brady, but he has all the intangibles to do exactly the same thing. All Dak wants is to be the best. When he wakes up in the morning, that's what he wants. The most important thing for him was to learn how to play football."

"Peyton Manning, as talented as he was, as close to any player I know of or ever seen, maximized a lot of his potential," Jones said when asked how high of a ceiling Prescott has. "And I must say I don't know that anybody has ever gotten it all. We've all heard just how little of our potential that we really do maximize but that's from preparation and work. Everything we have seen, Dak has those kinds of qualities that when you think of Peyton Manning. You think of how he really developed his skills, how hard he worked at it, how he left nothing that he was aware of, how he addressed every nuance of his game, that's my picture of Peyton and know it to be accurate. I think that might be Dak's finest quality, his ability to look for every way you can to get better and continue to do it. So I think that there will be really dramatic improvement."

Owner/general manager Jerry Jones said part of his agreement with Romo, who signed a seven-year, $119.5 million contract extension this offseason, was the quarterback would spend “Peyton Manning-type time” at the facility.

“I can speak for Jason in this respect: Everything he is about wants more buy-in and more participation from the player,” Jones said. “So if Tony, for instance, would be here Monday through Saturday and be here from seven in the morning to six o’clock at night all over this place, then that’s better than the way it’s been. We’ll have more success, and Jason believes that. It’s certainly at quarterback but he believes it at the other positions, too.

“Tony is going to have more time, more presence. Not only is having in the offseason but when the season starts, beginning Mondays, assuming we played Sundays, he’s going to have more time on the job.

“A part of what we agreed with was extra time on the job, beyond the norm. That doesn’t mean that he didn’t have a lot of time on the job, but extra time on the job, Peyton Manning-type time on the job.”

All of those quotes about Peyton Manning and Tom Brady came from the end of last season. So if Dak then went in and put in as much time and worked as hard as Jones is implying that he would have, why did he get worse this year? I mean, Dak absolutely maximizes every breath, he makes the most of every synapse, he might be the apotheosis of commitment - so why didn't he get better? Either those fluff pieces is full of ****, or Dak lacks talent.

And why did you include anything about Romo? Romo clearly found a way to maximize his potential. He wasn't even drafted and went on to become a consistent top 5 QB in the NFL. If he did that without working his rump off then I'm guessing they need to re-evaluate the entire draft process.

Dak regressed mostly starting with the Atlanta game. He's a young QB. Got to give him a chance to get better. The guy was great last year and I don't care what anyone says. No matter what happens you can't take that away from him although some will try.

Yeah and pretty solid through the first 8 this year, Denver aside, but I think the Boys had altitude sickness at Mile High. Hey, whatever happens over the next two, happens. I don't see us drafting anything but a PS QB this year. 2018 is make or break for Dak. I'm pretty sure there are fans on here who hope for a break year, not a make year but they have their reasons. I'm sticking with improving the skill positions and O-line no matter who our guy is in 2019.

The entire thing is about a tireless work ethic and he literally says “I’m not saying he’s going to be the next Tom Brady”.

He worked with Shaw last offseason, too. How'd that work ethic play out this year?

Still not sure why Romo’s work ethic comes in to question. He was known to be a gym rat and always studied film, even while visiting his parents and on the Cabo trip. Crayton complained that Tony always had a football and would constantly want to throw the ball around, which was a bit frustrating because receivers want time for their hands to recover from the season.

Jerry’s statement about putting in Peyton Manning time isn’t a reflection of his work ethic. I think it is a compliment to how much Tony knew about the game and his ability to influence the game plan. His knowledge is pretty clear when listening to him in the booth.

Tony was always working hard to improve his game. I believe Dak is doing the same thing. I never doubted that about either of them

I'll never understand why this(topic in general....not this thread)always turns into a Dak vs Romo thing.
Like its 1 or the other...CHOOSE.
I loved Romo and defended him at work vs annoying haters.
Im doing the same with Dak...LOVE the guy and will defend him.

What gets lost in this.....before Zeke got sat down and before the cracks in Tyron Smith's armor showed....we were 5-3....had one of the best offenses in the league....were avg around 30pts a game and Dak's numbers were ahead of last years numbers.
Then atlanta happened.....and he lost his confidence....and when a 2nd yr QB loses confidence...they get sloppy in their mechanics.
And still......he got us to 9-7,5-1 div record,4-1in december.
We can win with Dak.
Give him a chance.

2 years:
22wins.
2 consecutive winning seasons.
12-4 on the road...6-2 in december.
during his worst season, still threw for over 3,000yds...21tds...111.1 QBR v the blitz...3rd best in the league.
Without his best player and best OT...we went 3-3...alive for the play-offs...finished 9-7...5-1 in the East...4-1 in december.
In his worst season.
DAK IS THE RIGHT GUY.
BUILD ON IT.

The ability to like posts seems to be missing on here. Yeah, with you on that. I want QB and team success not always looking for it.

If I had to guess I would say Dak regressed because the o'line wasn't as good, and defenses now had a years worth of film on him they didn't have last season when he was forced into the job prematurely. Dez wasn't much help either.

All Romo did was date celebrities, play golf and sing don’t stop believing.

It was all luck.

Or.....

Not comparing one’s work ethic vs the other but THE main reason I’m still holding out hope and giving Dak another year IS due to his work ethic. No matter what happens, the guy isn’t a quitter and is constantly trying to better himself.

Those are 2 different things. Just because it didn't work out doesn't mean Dak didn't put in the effort to get better.

That's the point I was making. Some guys can play an instrument for years but never be good enough to be in a band. Not saying Dak isn't good enough, but he said last year while working with Shaw they worked on accuracy and footwork, which are the areas where he continues to struggle.

I hope so. Remember how bad the QB position was before Romo? No one wants to return to that.
