I think that's bull though Adam. You and I both know Tom Brady and Russell Wilson passed EFECETIVELY to a SB in two different manners. One with an obvious spread, QB shoulder the load game plan and the other with a smash mouth first style that the passing game fed off with play action.Almost any comprehensive passing stat yields a very high correlation to winning. Personally, I use an ANYPA formula that includes net passing yards, interceptions, attempts and sacks -- (net passing yards - (50 * INT) / (attempts + sacks). Other people use Pro Football Reference's ANYPA stat or simple YPA or NYA or passer rating or QBR. Pick one -- the team that is better at it during a game almost always wins that game.
So far this season, the teams that pass more effectively are 31-1 -- with the only loss being the Ravens losing to the Raiders on a TD pass with 26 seconds left.
Big Ben has won 2 rings passing effectively with 2 different emphasises.
