Dallas could realistically trade up into the top 5 in 2025

Projected top 5 picks in 2025 NFL draft (obviously a lot can happen during the season as there are surprise teams):

1. Patriots
2. Panthers
3. Broncos
4. Titans
5. Washington

All of those teams are invested into a QB and would likely be open for business. If the Cowboys don't re-sign Dak, this would be a solid opportunity to trade up for Beck or Sanders. Dallas has a very, very young team and I think they're deliberately doing this so they have the draft ammo next year to trade up and get their guy. Maybe they're more aggressive in FA next year, but what do you guys think?

Wishful thinking is all this is. Jerry’s going to extend Dak here soon.

It depends on where Dallas finishes this season. If they finish in the top sixteen , maybe.

It would likely take 3 first round picks to move up for a weak prospect. Could wind up as bad a trade as SF trading up for Lance. The 2025 QB prospects arent as raw, but they have maybe Andy Dalton caliber upside

So while realistic, it would be a horrible idea

Even then you are talking multiple 1sts. The QB's in 2025 are just not worth that. I don't even know if any of them are better prospects than Pickett was in 2022. I see all 4 (Beck, Sanders, Ewers as well as Pickett in 2022) as fringe 1st round guys. I think their ceiling is Andy Dalton and floor is Brady Quinn. Most likely scenario is then being a Blaine Gabbert or Christian Ponder

Okay, I believe that Jerry is going to extend Dak soon but I am hoping it is only a 3 or 4 year extension. I hope Jerry has been watching some college football and if I were GM going into the 2025 draft I would definitely look at who should be drafting in the top 3 come 2026. I would trade out of the first and possibly a player of two to ensure I could find a way to draft at either the #1 overall in 2026 or a way to trade enough picks to get the #1 overall.

Then I am drafting Arch Manning from Texas. The kid is the real deal and definitely a 10 year to 15 year all pro. Want to make Dallas relevant again, GET MANNING!!

Right. I don’t think the prospects are worth trading up for either

Watching LSU tonight, Nussmeier looking good. Would fit into our offense nicely.

Watching the college games over the weekend, we saw some good QBs and most likely 4 or 5 that will go in the 1st round of the 2025 draft. None of them to me were worth trading up in the 1st round. If I am going to trade up, then I want a guy that I can legit say that he is the guy for the next 10 years. None of those gave me that impression.

The only one for me was the backup at Texas in Arch Manning. He can throw all the passes, accurate, can run well, good decisions, and generally nothing seem to bother him. He will be the 1st pick in the draft come the 2026 draft so unless Dallas in some way acquires that pick well before the 2025 season starts, there isn't much chance that we will even come close to drafting him. Whoever has the worst record in 2025 and gets the 1st round pick is going to take him, other than probably the Chiefs.

As far as the 2025 draft, right now, depending on our record, I expect the 1st 3 picks to be DE, CB, and RB. That could change and hopefully will but sure looks like it currently.

This was the year to move up.

As usual. Reactive not proactive.

Sheduer Sanders is the biggest joke in college football. I can't believe the OP even named him.

Is it realistic to think:
  • This GM and son will do that? JJ has selected a QB in the first round once in 35 drafts.
  • We should have confidence in this GMs ability to “trade up”? The last time Jerry traded up big time was for Corner Mo Claiborne in 2012 when the Cowboys moved up from the 14th pick to the 6th pick, giving up the 14th pick and the 45th pick in 2nd round.
It’s possible this team moves on from Dak of course (or Dak chooses not to resign here, lol) but I don’t think that’s what JJ wants. He hates to change QBs based on his history. We will see in the next 12 mos.
