Dallas Cowboy Offensive Line

eggshells... from you... Larry errr Bear, ahh, Silverbear:eek: never would have believed it.

Well, if there's one subject I always try to approach cautiously online, it's race... even this ol' Bear has his limits...

but on to your subject matter... I am not sure it ever went out of fashion its just that some of the time when we got an Olineman that was white he sucked (zimmerman, shiver, peterson, jacob) but not always (Stepnoski, Gogan, Gesek)... the difference this time is we might have found a few that can play all at the same time and not the same position.

Eh? did that make sense?

Well, whatever the racial breakdown of the offensive line, I like the way it's shaping up... I'm mostly worried about the backup center position right now, and I'd still be in favor of the Boys signing Kendyl Jacox to a short deal to plug that hole for a year or two...

I noted one thing of interest regarding the offensive line, but I'm almost afraid to broach the subject... at this point, the Boys have three offensive linemen who are black (Gurode, Adams, Davis), one that's Hispanic (but about to retire-- Marco Rivera)... and the rest are all white guys, including every one of the new players drafted or signed after the draft-- Marten, Free, Turner, Rissler...

I make no representations as to whether or not this is a good thing, I'm merely commenting on something I noticed... I find myself wondering if this is entirely by accident, or if the Boys are following in the path of the Patriots, who also seemed to pick up a lot of white offensive linemen these last few years...
I don't see any ethnicity pattern, let alone a pattern that suggests some sort of ethnic agenda. Gurode and Davis were signed to high dollar longer term contracts. Columbo was signed to a shorter term deal.

The obvious agenda, IMO, is size .... getting really big guys.

Free, Marten and McQ. My guess is that one will do well, one will do OK and one will suck...

I wholeheartedly support that agenda...

Who cares and what difference does it make? As long as they block and play well, who gives a damn to what color they are. Sorry if I offend you but this was a stupid post..

I have got a crazier theory. That JJ and co. just want to bring in good OL to shore up our OL.

Why in the hell would race matter to Jerry? Jerry just wants to win. He has shown that repeatedly. People can criticize his moves/acquisitions all they want, but he has ALWAYS shown his desire to win.

How race even factored into this is beyond absurd.

for the record, peterman and rogers didn't suck. They were casualties of injury.....They were solid picks. Rogers was an impressive starting tackle on the Championship team at USC. Peterman was an impressive starting guard on the championship team at LSU. Both were at big time programs and played big time competition and were very seasoned. Unfortunately, they were injury plagued once we drafted them.

We also lost Whitley to injury. He didn't have the pedigree of the other two, but he was supposed to be versatile. He was supposed to be able to play all 5 line positions.

At least we didn't have the same luck as the Colts. Remember when they had #1 and #2 in the same draft and picked Coryatt and Emtman and both those guys were injury casualties....

All we did was use a 2nd and a 3rd round pick on our guys.....Injuries happen and cannot be controlled. Some players are injury-plagued in college, but end up injury-free for the most part in the NFL.....or the reverse occurs, a player is basically healthy until the NFL, and then can't seem to stay off IR.....

Now onto the list....where are the names like Proctor, Berger, the guy from the Commanders, and a few others that we have signed.....

No, they both suck. What I was saying was that nobody thought that Rogers and Peterman were bad picks. I believe one of them is out of the leauge and one of them is on the Detroit Lions' bench, and that is saying something considering the Lions' offensive line problems. 2nd round picks are still pretty high, you expect them to produce. You do not pick a 2nd rounder to be a bench warmer or get booted from the team.

I don't blame BP for his picks of those two players, though.

They both had injury issues....Rogers, lost his passion also. Once the injuries plagued him, he seemed to lose his fire.

Peterman tore his knee ligaments in the preseason in 2004.....it takes about 2 years to fully recover from that kind of injury. He started those final two games in Detroit last year....one against us. I bet he ends up having a long career in the league, and probably as a starter, now that he seems to be fully recovered from his injury.

OPINION: I recently heard that they might move McQuistan to guard , if that is true look at the size of these monsters!

/Flozell 6'7 -340
/Kosier 6'5 -305
/McQuistan 6'6 -315
/Gurode 6'4 -312
/Davis 6'6 366
/Coloumbo 6'8 320
Now you add in these guys
/Marten 6'7 1/2 -309 Rookie
/Free 6'6 -324 - Rookie

I love the fact that we drafted 2 o-lineman with size and talent, but didn't wait around to get them in the 7th round. Even better is not wasting a 2nd round pick on a bad o-lineman. Drafting 2 guys now to develop for the future is the best thing we could have done. Finally, someone got their head out of their butt and realised that we need depth and talent on the line.

Honestly, I wonder how much of this strategy is a direct result of Parcells not being here. We all know he sucked at drafting o-linemen. In the 4 years that Parcells was the coach here, we drafted 6 offensive linemen (Al Johnson, Justin Bates, Jacob Rodgers, Stephen Peterman, Rob Petitti, Pat McQuistan). Of those 6 guys, only one is still with the team (McQuistan). Yet, Parcells gets credited as being some kind of draft genius.

I honestly like the Marten and Free picks better than the Spencer pick or any other pick for that matter. It is about dang time we addressed o-line via some quality selections instead of through free agency. The lonly thing I liked better in this draft was the Cleveland trade, because it might lead to us getting McFadden next year.

I hope Romo can see down field over those guys, he's gonna have to throw from a step ladder.
