2008's secondary was one of the worst in team history.
I've already dealt with this briefly, but I propose to take a little closer look at this bit of hyperbole...
Was 2008's secondary worse than the 2004 secondary, RR?? Look at the numbers, judge for yourself:
Completion Percentage allowed: 60.6 in 2008, 61.8 in 04... advantage, 2008 team...
Yards per Game allowed: 187.7 in 08, 220.1 in 04... big advantage, 2008 team...
TD passes allowed: 19 in 08, 31 in 04... BIG advantage, 2008 team...
Ints: 8 in 2008, 13 in 04... advantage, 2004 team... guess that means they were better, using your specious logic...
Quarterback Rating allowed: 86.2 in 08, 94.2 in 04... advantage, 08 team...
Yards per Attempt allowed: 6.6 in 08, 7.4 in 04... big advantage, 08 team...
So, which pass defense do you reckon was better, the 08 team, or the 04 team??
Now, let's go at this the opposite way, by talking about the 2001 pass defense... they only had 9 ints, which by your standards means they were a lousy pass defense, right?? But they allowed a 58.7 per cent completion rate, allowed an excellent 180.6 yards per game (3rd in the NFL that year), allowed 20 TD passes, gave up an 82.7 quarterback rating, and just 6.2 yards per attempt...
To me, that's some really good pass defense right there, marred ONLY by the fact they didn't get many ints...
Clearly, your claim that the 2008 Cowboys secondary was one of the worst in team history is beyond asinine... hell, in 85 the Boys ranked 27th in a 28 team league, in 83 they ranked 26th (there were other teams that didn't rank in the league's top 20, I'm just offering you the worst of the worst, and the NFL.com stats only go back to 1970, so I can't even factor in the early years)... if I offered you a full comparison of those teams' numbers versus this year's team numbers, you'd be embarrassed that you even tried to compare the 08 team's secondary to those truly lousy teams... and that was in an era that wasn't nearly as pass-happy as last year was...
Looking at the pass defense numbers year by year going back to 2000, the 2008 team is about middle of the pack over that time... you could look it up... that's hardly "one of the worst in team history"...
Bottom line, I'll bet I could come up with about 20-25 Cowboys teams since 1970 that put up worse numbers than the 08 team, and back my claims up with hard, cold facts...
