Dallas Cowboys: Felix Jones Is Who We Thought Reggie Bush Would Be

honestly as a change of pace back i will take felix every single time, does reggie bush even get 5 carries a game anymore?

I was in the Mendenhall wagon and was disappointed with the choice at the time of the draft, if Felix continues to be a high maintenance Porsche than it is clear that we all missed the boat in Chris Johnson. I always loved my Porsche 911 but if I had to depend on getting there it was always the Honda that got the call. I always got to the destination, the only difference is the seat of the pants feeling during the ride. We are all enjoying the ride right now lets see if he gets us to our destination. Felix is certainly an exciting player but we need to have the "well see" attitude and really evaluate how he adds to our primary goal, winning the division and more. More on my poor evaluation of our talent, I thought our Oline would get trampled this season, I am here to bow in their general direction, would love to hear how that special weapon we all heard about in training camp (Theo), Bennett(game changer/match up nightmare ?), is he being saved for later or is he just ineffective in games, I really hope this is not another T Choice like decision, in which we never knew what we had until we were forced to use him. We could say the same for Brad Johnson, oops I think I am starting to see a trend.
Remember the bottom line is winning. We do not seem to understand that concept with some of our game decisions, but that is another thread.

Too bad Chris Johnson is better than both Felix and Bush at this point. He was on the board at the time as well.

Interesting article... I can't help but see the homerism though. I mean, Felix is a beast and I love the guy on the Cowboys, but this article would have been more accurate from a Tenn. perspective especially with all the injuries that Felix has had and how many games he has played.

You could almost use the same quote and apply it to Felix... Chris Johnson is Who We Thought Felix Jones (and Reggie Bush) would be.

I disagree.

Felix Jones is a very good player but I believe the only young Running Back that is playing at the extraordinary level it was thought Reggie Bush would play at is Adrian Peterson.

I think you are right. Johnson landed in a good situation with the Titans and done very well with it.. I think if he were in Dallas he would have half the touches he has in Tennessee. You would still be able to see how explosive he is on his limited touches just like we can see how explosive Felix is, but he wouldn't have the overall totals he has put up. Johnson has become a big play a game back plus. Hopefully Felix proves his durability. If he does I think he will be somewhat similar to Johnson.

Just evaluating Reggie Bush on his own I don't see him as explosive when I watch him running the ball out of the backfield. He is slow to the hole and when he tries to bounce it outside he gets run down by linebackers. He is very limited running the ball. You have to accept that he is not an every down back. That is a big negative for someone drafted so high. Even accepting that you still want your change of pace back/3rd down back to average more than 3.7 yards per carry. Troy Hambrick thinks that is poor.

Reggie Bush works in New Orleans because of the system Payton runs. Payton spreads Bush out to try to get him into space. Good running backs create their own space. I think Bush would produce far less than he does now if he were put in another system.

Running backs are supposed to run the ball just like quarterbacks are supposed to pass the ball. Michael Vick's running ability would be much more deadly if he could pass the ball. Reggie Bush's receiving ability would be much more deadly if he could run the ball. That is what made Faulk and Tomlinson dangerous receivers. They hurt you rushing the ball first.

It is too early to compare Felix to anyone. He has not played enough games. Reggie Bush has played enough games and has been a huge disappointment. Not to me because he is who I thought he was.

That's when I believe a star will be born, and Felix will show the world that his name should be talked about with the best in the League.
I've had that thought, as well. I truly believe That if Felix gets around 20 carries in a game and is allowed to get into a groove, he will be spectacular!

I love Felix Jones, but he hasn't proven he can run inside or be anything more than what he was in college and so far in DAllas, a part-time back. Right now he's having trouble staying healthy touching the ball less than 10 times a game. They put Bush outside because he's such a good receiver that he has to be respected by the cb as a wr would...that's the passing game and has nothing to do with the running game. We haven't even gotten Felix involved catching the ball at all...right now, Choice has been the 3rd down back more than Felix.

Felix is perfect for what we wanted...as Garrett said, we already have a full time RB. I would love to see Jones do it all and become a superstar, but right now I just don't see how anyone can argue that he does anything Bush doesn't do. That's not a knock on him at all...but it's a stretch at this point to say Felix Jones is a better RB than Bush.

:star: Good points, and I am also hoping that Jones can remain healthy enough to be a consistent contributor, but only time/number of touches will determine that though.

I would take either.

I love Felix.

But I think Bush is actually underrated now because he did not "live up" to some peoples stupid expectations.

Im a huge Reggie fan but at this level it's Felix all the way.

Reggie dances and toe dips to much. Felix can do all that but most of the time he reads his blocks and then explodes through the hole.

Felix > Reggie and thats crazy coming from me.

I had been saying that exact same thing since Felix Jones was drafted. Verbatim.

I hope he goes on to have a great career in Dallas.

It is very early on in Felix career but given the small sample of Felix compared to Bush I think Felix is the better RB and has shown the ability to run inside or outside of the tackles. Bush at this stage looks to be the better receiving back but then Jones has not had many opportunities in the passing game thus far.

I just hope tomorrow that he'll get a chance to have the kind of game we all know he can have.

Now if we could only get the ball to Jones like New Orleans does for Bush in the pass game. Jones should touch the football no less than 15 times a game. (Returns, rushing, receiving). He's too big a playmaker not to use him

Reggie runs scared, that's his biggest problem.

That and I would like to see us use Felix the way the Eagles use Westbrook but the workload should be put on Choice this week. Felix is the change of pace home run threat, Choice is the grinder. 20 reps for Choice, 15 for Felix...
