Yes.

That's what the IPP is for.

Kansas City just signed a 23 -year-old Rugby player who is 6'3" and 214 lbs. runs a 4.43 40. He will have zero pressure to sit and learn in the Chiefs organization.

This guy is a guy who has had a ton of college football coaching and was deemed not good enough. It's fine, and harmless really, but I think this specific player is a waste of everyone's time. What has changed since he played in college that now makes him a potential NFL player? He does not have exceptional size (6'2", 304) or athletic ability.

It's literally a technicality that he qualifies for the IPP.

From the article:

And because of the international exception, Dax has a chance to at least remain with the Cowboys for up to three years while developing on the practice squad. That is, unless he makes the 53-man roster, which is the ultimate goal of any rookie, regardless of their situation.

No harm, no foul, but also no big deal.
Maybe I misunderstood the article, but the Cowboys did select him before they figured out they could classify him as IPP. They must have seen something that they liked.

Yes - Daxon was among the UDFAs signed by Dallas after day 3 of the draft back in late April.

As long as these new guys have more fight in them when it matters, cool. The last group? Quitters.

Bluntly speaking he is not that big.
Have any international players ever made the Pro Bowl?
How many have ever been starters?
right now this is a complete nothingburger
5 Canadian born players have been in the Pro Bowl:
  • PK Eddie Murray
  • PK Mike Vanderjagt
  • P Mitch Berger
  • CB Jason David
  • DT Arnie Weinmeister
Patrick Chung of Jamaica played safety for the Patriots for 11 years, and won 3 Super Bowls.

He's still a little undersized for the interior D. We need a 6'5" plus giant that weighs north of 350 lbs.

So the article title is misleading.

The Dallas Cowboys have gone international to add some size and depth to the interior defensive line.

They did not "go international"

They used a technicality to designate one of their already-signed UDFA the IPP designation, which means he doesn't count againt the practice squad limit.

Understood. However, articles must be posted with their original titles--unless the article title requires editing (e.g. it contains offensive language, etc.)

Good move.

A roster exempt developmental guy who's got some college ball experience.

It's a free shot with no downside.

Well that's just mean.
True , but he is not wrong. I dont know if that was Quinn (wonder how could be that dumb) ,try to convert him to a pass rush 3T, when he wasdrafted for NT or 1T position.

Mailata is a starter. Rugby player from Australia. It can happen. It will never happen if a team doesn’t even try. Can’t a team bring a foreign born player in and it doesn’t count against the max 90 guys in camp? Nothing to lose taking a look.
