With a more workmanlike approach and fewer distractions, the Cowboys should be in the thick of things right to the end.
Prediction: 9-7, third in the NFC East
Steve Wyche
Pressure will be on Tony Romo well before December. The running game and defense should be excellent.
Prediction: 9-7, third in NFC East
Pat Kirwan
The Cowboys sit in a good position to do some damage. Their defense has to create more turnovers, especially interceptions. T.O. is gone and as long as someone picks up the touchdown production, they will be OK.
Prediction: 9-7, third in NFC East
Bucky Brooks
The Cowboys stood pat in the offseason while the rest of the NFC East made major moves to retool their rosters. Dallas still has a formidable lineup, but the Giants and Eagles are better.
Prediction: 9-7, third in NFC East
Jason La Canfora
Not sure this is the year they finish strong.

Playoff games the Cowboys have won since the 1996 season. Over that span, they have recorded an 0-5 postseason record.
"I'm not saying everything is going to be perfect. We're going to have very tough times this year, I'm sure. But I do think you get a sense, as you get older, a certain way to read or think about things. ... You can't duplicate experience."

Jason Garrett
Dallas slipped to 13th in total offense after ranking third in Garrett's first season as offensive coordinator. Roy Williams is set to replace Terrell Owens as the team's No. 1 receiver, but the loss of a vertical threat on the outside forces Garrett to change his offensive philosophy. How well he melds his system to the team's talent will ultimately determine if the Cowboys meet their lofty expectations.
Martellus Bennett
Bennett is set to take on a big role in the Cowboys' revamped offense. The ultra-athletic tight end has a unique skill set that makes him a matchup nightmare for defenses. At 6-foot-6, 265 pounds, Bennett is too big for safeties, and his speed makes him a difficult guard for linebackers. As the H-back or "move" tight end in the team's double tight end sets, Bennett should find plenty of room working opposite Jason Witten.
3A solid 1-2
This is the year Romo will be evaluated as a leader. With Terrell Owens gone, he now owns the huddle. Kitna is a top backup and he should help Romo on the sideline. A strong run game helps both quarterbacks.

Felix Jones
Look for Jones to be a major contributor in Dallas' new run-based offense. He averaged close to 9 yards a carry as a rookie. With more touches and a bigger role, Jones could be a strong flex starter.
Three pivotal games
Sept. 20 vs. New York Giants
This is the regular-season christening of Jerry Jones' Taj Mahal of a stadium. It's also the Cowboys' only NFC East game until Nov. 8, so the hype will be immeasurable. This is the only division game until midseason, which means a rugged December-January docket. Uh oh. Dec. 6 at New York Giants
The first game of the last month of the year means QB Tony Romo will officially be under pressure to perform. He won in New York two years ago, but that game was in November. Another question: Will Marion Barber be healthy at this point of the season? Jan. 3 vs. Philadelphia
The Eagles beat the brakes off the Cowboys in last season's finale to advance to the playoffs and keep Dallas out. As much heat as Romo gets about late-season performances, Dallas' defense collapsed late in '08. If the 'D' holds, this one could be for home-field advantage ... or Wade Phillips' job.
