Wilson and Linehan wanted to draft Dak earlier. It was the scouts that had him as a 4th rounder.

I understand that, but it doesn't matter who wanted what or who wants to take credit for what to help their own careers.

We, as a team, had him in the spot where he was taken. Individuals saying 'I told you so' is just like people on this board saying they knew about some guy like they have a crystal ball...... its meaningless other than trying to make people listen to them like they are always right.

It gives more credibility to Linehan in the future. Linehan likes Moore as the backup. That makes me want to give him the benefit of the doubt. Jerry/Stephen probably feel the same way.

Well, ole Jerry boy would take the heat. He did set himself up for that. The real, hard and honest question now is who gets the credit for the turn around in recent years?? I am certainly no Jerry fan....but, fair is fair.!?!

At least you're open to being fair.

I'm hoping Moore's replacement comes in this next draft, that supposed to be deep in QBs.

Honestly, it's hard for me to believe 'I told you so'. Not like we have any proof from then, maybe he said it internally, who knows. If he and the QB coach felt that strongly though, Dak would've been picked earlier than a comp pick in the 4th round after we tried for 2 other QBs.

Just not buying it.

It is the scouts evaluation that we are supposed to accept. If they say he is a 4th rd pick then that should be that. WAY too often in the past coaches get a pet cat and screw things up.

We got lucky like when we got Emmitt. Accept that but DO NOT TRY AND CLAIM it was on purpose.

I do recall articles before the draft saying that Wilson and Linehan where touting Dak. Watching our success with later picks recently
makes me believe they are following their board. Where I do concur is if I was high on a QB [even with a recent DWI] I'd jumped sooner.
But look who we might have lost.

Well I probably didn't see those articles, but I'm glad how it turned out of course. Predraft rumors are good to hear I guess, I probably don't pay as much attention to them cause of the smoke screen factor.

The Cowboys liked Dak better than every other team in the league. They get credit for that.

Absolutely -- the team did their homework and came away with enough confidence in him to take him before anyone else had the guts and the necessary information to do so. It speaks well for them to recognize his value when many others didn't. It wasn't all luck, to be sure, although there's always some element of luck in any pick that goes as splendidly as that one did.

the thing is, Dallas stuck to their board and got arguably the best QB in the draft (of course, I think he IS the best, but time will paint this picture)...but, the thing that is not being said is what the top two teams had to give up to get their #1 QB's...Dallas was able to grab a pro-bowl RB with their first rounder...Rams and Eagles gave up their first picks and more, watering down their respective drafts in comparison to Dallas...and, if we hit on Jaylon??? yikes...

I see what you're saying Ghost.

Just to clarify though (with honestly no intention of being a weenie)
There are many "possible" scenarios where teams could have liked Dak as much or even way more than us but did not take him:

1) They already drafted a QB earlier the same draft--so that could mean Rams, Eagles, Broncos, Jets, Pats, Browns, Raiders may have had him rated higher than us but they already took a QB.

2) They have no intention of taking QB in the first 4 rounds regardless and want to address other needs. Dallas was like that for years, for example. Or maybe a team with a very young guy that they just spent a high pick on recently--like Tennessee or Tampa Bay. Does not mean they didn't have Dak rated higher than us.

3) The team had Dak rated higher than us, but had another player still on the board (that they took) rated even more highly. That could have been almost any team.

You're right on all fronts. But I've heard and read way more about Dallas getting lucky than I ever heard about San Fran being lucky when they picked Montana or NE being lucky when they picked Brady. Yes there was luck involved on each pick but there always is. A team is lucky when a player pans out from any draft slot. Even the top overall pick has some luck involved.
