INDIANAPOLIS -- The NFL club that requested an electromyography be performed on former Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston's throwing shoulder at the NFL Scouting Combine was the Dallas Cowboys, and the results of the exam showed no issue, according to NFL Media's Albert Breer.

Winston threw impressively at the combine on Saturday and insisted in his media interview that he felt fine.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Friday that weakness around a nerve in Winston's shoulder was detected by a doctor during his combine medical exam, and that he went to the hospital for additional testing. Winston's baseball career was apparently the culprit. Winston pitched as a closer out of the bullpen for the FSU baseball team and compiled a 1.08 ERA over 33 innings for the Seminoles last year.

According to Breer, the condition of Winston's shoulder is normal for pitchers, and Winston hasn't had a typical offseason football recovery.

Winston is expected to be drafted long before the Cowboys pick at No. 27, but nobody can say the club doesn't do its due diligence in evaluating the draft's top quarterbacks. At last year's combine, Dallas made Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel one of its 60 formal combine interviews, andCowboys owner Jerry Jones was not pleased that the team missed out on Manziel in the draft.

That's a little odd that it was the Cowboys.

I think they learned their lesson of not thoroughly checking out all of the details of all possible players with the Claiborne ordeal. They didn't interview him prior to the draft and totally missed that he is weak minded.

Articles like that irk me. What do you mean "Jerry Jones was upset the Cowboys missed out on Manziel"? If he wanted to he would have got him, plain and simple. He didn't miss out on him in any way. If anything, he was upset he missed out on Shazier.

Except for that whole interview where Jerry said it made him sick that the Cowboys didn't draft Manziel and that had ignored those around him and gone with his gut, like he did when he decided to buy the Cowboys, Johnny Football would be in Dallas,

His words. He was literally upset the Cowboys missed out on Manziel.

Why would the Cowboys request that Winston shoulder be tested when there is a 0% chance they are in a position to draft him?

See Morris Claiborne.

Already seen Mo Claiborne. Its not relevant to my post.
The Cowboys are not moving up to the first pick in the draft and Winston is not dropping anywhere near 27.

They believed they would not have a chance to get Claiborne so they did not due their due diligence in checking him out prior to the draft.
When the draft unfolded and he started to slide, they decided to move up and get him.

Now I understand the idea that we were not as far down then as we are now...but it was his point that it is better to be safe than sorry.

Many believed the following players would never fall to us in the past, but they did...

Steven Jackson
Johnny Manziel
Shariff Floyd
Aaron Rodgers
Brady Quinn

Better to be safe than sorry and do the homework on the player in the crazy off shoot chance that they start to fall some.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that Winston is going first overall in this draft.

Around this time last year very very few people thought that Manziel would fall to the Cowboys pick.

There is not cost to the Cowboys to have Winston checked out in more detail; however, on the flip side as we saw with Claiborne, there is a huge cost to not being prepared. They didn't have any contact with Claiborne prior to that draft and they totally missed the fact that he is mentally weak.

Everyone knows that Romo has 2 years left. Tops. If the brass wants to move up and grab a QB, then kudos to them for planning for the future.

Winston could easily slip to the middle of the first.

If you look at the teams who are picking early, only Tampa Bay, Cleveland and maybe the Jets are looking for a QB. The Iggles as well, but they only have 1 guy in mind.

Now think about it. I'm not convinced the Bucs take Winston. I feel they are leaning towards Mariota. The Jets will probably go with a pure passer in Hundley. Cleveland is the dark horse in this. With their ties to Mariota, they could package picks and move up to #2 to take him, but that only works if Winston goes #1. Or Perhaps Tampa gives their #1 to Cleveland and takes Petty or Grayson later.

Maybe the Cowboys tried their card with the shoulder issue to scare teams away. Plus, if Winston sits for 2 years, he can learn, and heal if his shoulder was an issue.

Jerry is a businessman first. What better way to expand the brand by picking a kid worshiped on the East Coast?
