Wow, what a list, guess we better hold onto Tony a little bit longer.

I'm surprised to see exactly how many we went through from Aikman to Tony.
Seems like a lot when you list them like that. I knew there were several but that surprised me a little.

A lot of them were backups to Aikman, and not successors to Aikman, so the list isn't quite as long as you may think. Wright through Bldsoe is the actual post Aikman list.

Hell of a list cowboy. I had never seen a full list. Longer than I would have realized.

Yeah, Aikman was out way too often, haha.

Yeah I was suprised that I knew of most of them. The only guys I have no idea who are are Heinrich, Roach, Rhome, Carano, Collier, and Sweeney. Way before my time.

You're right. And there's still a helluv a lot of them.
Just doesn't seem that long ago to me...

I'm an old timer so I've heard all there names, but Meredith is the only one I remember seeing before Morton, and I was too young to have a clear memory of him. I was surprise to see Roach, Rhome and Heinrich were all between Meredith and Morton, but I guess we had to get by a yer or so in between.

Sweeny was our QB during the scab games in the strike season. HE go to be pretty popular and I thik was actually put on the roster after the strike was over. May have played in a real game or two, but can't remember. Collier was a project who was a running QB in college. Carano was a backup to Danny White for several years.

It really doesn't. The post Aikman years were pretty lean for a long time. People can trash talk Bledsoe all they want, but until we got him the QB position had been a joke. He was the first ray of hope we had seen in a long time.

Thanks. Always curious about Cowboys history.

Brings back memories. I remember in Quincy Carter's first few games, the crowd would get so excited just to see him scramble for 3-4 yards after all the statues in the pocket we had at QB :laugh2:

Looking at the list, I think everyone of the QB's you named started at least 1 game for Dallas, which makes me wonder if we have had others on the roster who never played.

Well there you go. That list does shine a little more light. Thanks.

anytime bud, good idea tho. im sure it will bring back memories for many fans and hopefully some stories and stuff.

Finally thought of one not on the list, and this one will surprise any that aren't old timers.

Dan Reeves.

He was actually a RB, but he was also the 3rd string QB and played the position a few times in emergency situations. I don't think he ever started a game at QB though, so that may be why he was missed.

thats if they ever officially put him at the position.

Over eight seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, Reeves collected 1,990 rushing yards and 1,693 receiving yards.[2] His best year came in 1966, when he rushed for seven touchdowns, good for a tie for second in the league.[3] Reeves threw a touchdown pass in the Cowboys' losing effort in the legendary "Ice Bowl;" the 1967 Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers.[4] The Cowboys made the playoffs every year of Reeves's playing days, reaching the Super Bowl twice and culminating in a 24-3 victory over the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl VI following the 1971 season. In Super Bowl V with the Cowboys and Colts tied at 13 in the last 2 minutes, Dan Reeves let a pass go through his hands and it was intercepted, setting up the Colts in Dallas territory. The Colts would win the game on a 32-yard field goal from Jim O'Brien with 5 seconds left. In the offseason, Reeves worked as a salesman for Gifford-Hill, a concrete plant in Grand Prairie, Texas.[5][6]

I think he was on the depth chart as the 3rd team QB, but his official position was always listed as RB.

I do not recall Reeves ever playing QB for us. He threw 32 passes as a RB but I don't remember him ever taking a snap at QB. Landry liked to use the HB-Option pass, I wish we would use it more often today.

Drew Pearson was listed as the emergency QB too but he never actually played the position for us.

Yeah it was everybody who started in a game. I think QBs who never started would be a crazy list.

I'm more curious to QBs who played in a game but never started. Like say Kitna started the last game instead of McGee. McGee would be one because he played in week 16 but never started.

I loved those days of the Cowboys. Reeves was an added weapon. No one has been that good since then. The two best I've seen were Walter Payton and LaDanian Tomlinson, but even they weren't used quite like Reeves was. I think intelligence is so under rated in a lot of players, but is so vital.
