During the majority of Romo’s career, Garrett was rarely, if ever blamed. It was the defense, Dez not knowing how to run routes, Romo supposedly checking out of run plays, Wade running camp cup-cake. The amount of people defending Garrett, particularly in the media was endless. There were very few people on this forum blaming Garrett and his play-calling and his stifling of Romo, Witten and other players careers. If Romo had a legitimate play caller, things could have been different.
Garrett as play caller, Dallas averaged 7.8 points a game in the first half in his last year, meaning the Cowboys had to traditionally abandon the game plan and Romo was caught bailing them out. That was good for 28th in the league. They were 31st in rushing attempts and bottom five in play action usage.
2011 they were bottom half, at 17 and 11.4 points. They only time they ever exceeded the bottom half of the league was in 2007 and that was because Sparano was baby-sitting him, but problems started to rear its ugly head in the passing game in the last few games of the season. As soon as Sparano left, Garrett became a bottom half of the league in scoring OC.
He should have been gone ages ago and he was supposedly hired for his brilliant offensive mind. I mean look at the guy. He took Marc Columbo with him to NY Giants. The guy only knows his guys.
The first year they took some of the reigns away from Garrett and gave more power to Romo, Dallas jumped to 5th and 5th again in first half scoring in 2014.
