Dallas Cowboys undrafted players, do they have a chance? Joes views!

QB Rudy Carpenter, Arizona State, Dallas
Ok, Since the cowboys have 3 QB’s with Romo, Kitna, and McGee, there is no way rudy carpenter makes the team. They might try to put him on the practice squad if he can clear waiver wire. Personally, I don’t see this player being a super QB, he does play tough and with injuries. Yet, nothing on film jumps out at me on him. Carpenter isn’t overly big at 6-1 5/8 about 218 and inst fast or elusive, more a pocket passer. However, he does get rid of the ball quickly and throws with touch. Yet, gets rattled by blitzes, has a real low release, which causes balls to get blocked, while his balls sometimes hangs in the air. Report is though that the Cowboys loved him too, and I am starting to have some doubts about Garrett. In an article today on dallas morning news sports cowboys blog, it mentions that brad Johnson was loyal to garrett because garrett was the one that stood up for 40 year old brad Johnson. So, now I am starting to question Garrett’s thinking, if he cant see a 40 year old qb that cant throw the football. If Garrett thought Brad was that good and he cant see it, I have doubts about what garrett sees in Carpenter. Just my thoughts though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VN8OFa9rO2E
OG Greg Isdaner, West Virginia, Dallas Now the Cowboys as you know drafted Robert Brewster OT, that we all have heard that the cowboys plan to move to OG. Yet, Isdaner was one of the highly rated offensive guards in draft guides, that flew under the radar, underneath players like duke robinson or herman Johnson. If you look in draft guides they had this player going anywhere from 3rd to 6th round. So, he could be a steal. Has decent speed as an OG, has short arms though, which isn’t good for an OG. Another reason why he maybe a steal is that he was a junior, most juniors as offensive linemen or defensive linemen arent mature enough yet, let alone physical and strong enough. My thoughts on this, either Isdaner or Bright might have a chance to make the team over Proctor. That’s what I want, I am tired of seeing the Cowboys stick with Proctor who gets pushed back by a defensive linemen in Romo’s face or see Proctor when Romo is about to release the football, Proctor looks downfield to watch the football get catched by our wrs, while Romo gets hit by the guy that Proctor turned loose. Just bugs the heck out of me.

WR Julian Hawkins, Boise State, Dallas I cant find too much on him, but I did find this; so I cant say too much about him, just don’t see how he makes the team, now on flip side, he might be a young TE like Shannon Sharpe, that can fit an offense like that. But I just don’t see him making the team, moreso a camp body to me.

BOISE, Idaho - Some people are afraid of physical play, but not Boise State's Julian Hawkins, who says the physicality, is the thing he misses most after switching positions from tight end to wide receiver.
"As opposed to playing football, it now feels like I am playing basketball," said Hawkins who lettered in football and basketball while playing for Long Beach Poly High School in Long Beach, Calif. Even if his now misses contact, Hawkins had to learn to be a physical presence when he arrived at Boise State.
"In high school I was more of a pass receiving tight end, I didn't even use gloves," Hawkins said. "But I had to change when I came to Boise State just because the climate got so much colder and my hands would get beat up from run blocking."
With the position switch, Hawkins instantly became the biggest physical presence the Broncos have at the wide receiver position. He measures 6'3" 222 lbs., or just slightly taller than 2007 NFL draft pick and former Bronco, Legedu Naanee. Hawkins knows these physical tools will give him an advantage over the defenses not prepared to handle his size.
"I am able to be more physical, with the little more weight on me," said Hawkins. "I can use my body and make the catches over shorter defensive backs."
Even with the switch Hawkins will still be heavily relied upon to utilize his run blocking skills as will the rest of the wide receivers.
"The receivers' number one commitment to the team, is that they are going to be good blockers," assistant head coach and wide receiver coach Brent Pease said. "Obviously the receivers are here to catch the ball but they want to make the difference when big runs occur."
WR Kevin Ogletree, Virginia, Dallas Now this guy is interesting; Ogletree attributes are recognizing zones and coverages, and finding those seams to get open. He ran a 4.37 in is pro day. Recovering from a serious knee injury, so still rounding into shape, at the same time is a junior, so needs to get more physical and stronger. He can catch the ball but just isn’t explosive after the catch, but does get open, that’s the key to me there. So, check out the video and read his stats, summary below. He might be able to push crayton, since he does have some size to him, and maybe grow into that body. 6-2 190.

Draft Scout *Kevin Ogletree News
02/11/09 - PRO POTENTIAL: WR Kevin Ogletree was the only Cavalier to leave school early. He has already graduated from Virginia, but had one year of eligibility remaining because he missed 2007 with a torn ACL. Ogletree rebounded nicely from his injury and has made himself into a possible mid-round selection. He led the Cavaliers in receiving in his two healthy seasons and he finished with 110 career receptions.
01/07/09 - University of Virginia wide receiver Kevin Ogletree announced he will forego his final year of collegiate eligibility and enter the NFL Draft this April. Ogletree led the team in receiving this past season with 58 catches for 723 yards and five touchdowns, the second 50-catch season of his career. He finished fifth in the ACC in receptions (4.8/g), and third in receiving yards (60.2/g) and touchdowns (5) and was an honorable mention All-ACC selection. His 58 receptions are tied for fifth in a season in Virginia history, while his 723 yards are 12th. He returned in 2008 after missing the 2007 season because of a knee injury. After catching seven passes in seven games as a true freshman in 2005, he had a breakout sophomore campaign in 2006. He was the team’s leading receiver with 52 receptions for 582 yards and four scores. One of only 26 players in ACC history with two-50 catch seasons in a career, Ogletree is ranked seventh in school history with 117 career receptions and 13th with 1332 receiving yards. “Kevin has been a significant part of our team,” said head coach Al Groh. “He was a strong performer and an excellent teammate. Kevin received his degree in December and feels this is the appropriate time for him to move on; we agree and support him in his decision and wish him much success.” Ogletree received his degree in sociology last month, a semester early. - Virginia football
12/02/08 - 2008 ALL-ACC CONFERENCE HONORABLE MENTION (MEDIA): Kevin Ogletree, wr, Virginia (32), has been selected All-ACC Conference Honorable Mention for the 2008 college football season by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association. Ogletree returned this season after missing all of last year and led the team in receiving once again with 58 catches for 723 yards and five touchdowns. He finished fifth in the ACC in receptions (4.8/g) and third in receiving yards (60.2/g). With 58 receptions this season, he became only the 26th player in ACC history with two 50-catch seasons in a career. - Virginia football
11/19/08 - When Virginia’s 24 fourth- and fifth-year players align with family members in the end zone prior to Saturday’s Senior Day showdown with Clemson, wide receiver Kevin Ogletree will be there. That action should not alarm Cavalier fans. Ogletree, Virginia’s top pass-catching option with 50 receptions for 640 yards, boasts another year of eligibility stemming from his medical redshirt in 2007. “I will be doing the ceremony just so I can be out there with my guys I came in with,” Ogletree said Tuesday. “I’m not doing it because I think it will be my last game.” The possibility does remain, however, that the contest will mark the final home game for the wideout from Queens, N.Y. Following the season, Ogletree said he will use every measure available to analyze what his stock would be for the 2009 NFL Draft. “You would be an idiot not to take a look,” Ogletree said. “That will be a circumstance where a lot of things would have to turn up.” Ogletree, the ACC’s second-leading receiver, has seen firsthand examples of players properly prepared to leave early and those who needed further seasoning. Last season, left guard Branden Albert declared early for the draft and selected 15th overall and inked a five-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. From the opposite end of the spectrum, former Virginia linebacker Kai Parham elected to forgo his final year of eligibility and went undrafted in 2006. “You don’t want to be in that situation,” Ogletree said. “At least I have some time.” - Jay Jenkins, Charlottesville Daily Progress
11/10/08 - GAME BALL GOES TO: WR Kevin Ogletree has scored a touchdown in five of the past six games. His 5-yard scoring reception on Saturday vs. Wake Forest pulled the Cavaliers within 28-17 with 8:57 remaining.

Virginia wide receiver Kevin Ogletree confirmed Wednesday that he will forego his final season of eligibility and enter the NFL draft.
Ogletree, who redshirted in 2007 after suffering a knee injury, submitted paperwork for the NFL to learn where he stacked up in the draft.
“I did all of that and I got some good feedback,” Ogletree said.
In 2008, Ogletree hauled in 58 catches for 723 yards and a touchdown, averaging 60.2 yards per game and 12.5 yards per catch. The 6-foot-2, 189 pound rising senior had 582 yards on 52 catches as a sophomore and saw playing time as true freshman, finishing that season with seven catches for 27 yards.

Michael Turkovich is another camp body I think, he has good size and plays with high level, is quick and finishes blocks. But he must improve his footwork, strength and has has injury durability concerns. Again, he was coached by a pretty good coach in Weis, and he suffered a serious neck injury 3 years ago. May need a year or 2 on practice squad to develop, so this is most likely if the cowboys see a glimmer of something to put him on practice squad. That’s what I hear about the player, sorry couldn’t find a video of him blocking.
OL Travis Bright, Brigham Young, Dallas Now, this might be a player to develop, pretty big boy too, here is some video; He is a natural large man, at 6-5 316, runs the 40 in 5.36, has alittle initial quickness, good punch and powerful run blocker. With a 540 bench press. Had a rod inserted in his broken leg in 2007, so he just might be slowly rounding back into speed etc. Or at same time, might not never recover from injury. I do think that one of the offensive guards we too, bright or isander might make the team, at least on the practice squad, if they don’t push proctor. That’s about it, I tried to wait and see if we signed another undrafted player, but I havent seen the list yet of players coming in today at valley ranch. So, toss it around, I see maybe 2 players possibly making the team, or pushing the players on the roster at least. That’s what you always want, you don’t want a player to think he has it made and he isn’t giving 100 percent. And these players had better be willing to play on special teams too or they wont make the squad either. So, let me know what you think.

While the BYU offense is often characterized as a pass-heavy attack based on the success of junior quarterback Max Hall, the Cougars had the components to be one of the nation's elite inside running teams. Much of the credit is due right guard Travis Bright. Bright has the lateral quickness to hold up in the passing game, but his size and explosive upper-body strength are the characteristics that intrigue NFL scouts. Bright also showed the toughness required to make the transition to the NFL by making it back in time to start for his third season at guard, after suffering a broken leg in the bowl victory over UCLA in January of 2008.
